Episode notes
Kevin and Randall, forced into a dinner alone after Rebecca cancels, collide on a New York street over 36 years of accumulated grievance — Kevin's invisibility inside his own family, Randall's unwanted but undeniable special treatment. The argument ends with Kevin publicly claiming Randall as his brother for the first time, and the two of them watching The Manny together in the basement. Meanwhile, Toby abruptly drops out of the weight-loss program he and Kate had been doing together, and Kate ends the night alone at a gas station. Beth, spending the evening with William while Randall is at dinner, pieces together that Rebecca has known William's identity since Randall was a newborn — and leaves Rebecca an urgent voicemail the moment Randall is out of earshot.
This episode maps the cost of proximity without connection: two brothers who shared a childhood but never formed one, a couple whose shared commitment turns out to be asymmetrical, and a family secret that survived 36 years only to crack open in a single stoned conversation. The Kevin-Randall street argument reframes both characters — neither is simply the aggrieved party — and Beth's discovery sets up a reckoning that will implicate Rebecca's entire relationship with Randall.
