Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience 22: AND not Or: Competition with Collaboration is Key to Success

Do you notice that collaboration has higher value to people than competition? That collaboration is coded as kinder and better than competition? I have seen this over and over again in the world of business - both for- and non-profit. So for the most recent episode of the Think Tank I gathered business people who have excelled in their fields (and aren't done yet!) to talk about the realities and the value of collaboration and also of competition.

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 21: Can Employees Matter as Much as The Work?

How can leaders balance the good of an organization with the needs of the individual team members within their organization? April's Think Tank on Resilience dove into this thorny topic. From IBM's 270,000 employees to multimillion dollar companies with a few dozen team members, these folks outlined strategies to speak truth to their employees, supporting them and still keeping the organization's mission as true north.

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 20: Do CEOs Think Your Resilience is Their Job?

When you’re stressed at work your brain wants to find something or someone to blame. And if you’re not at the top of the org chart, it is easy to feel that your stress is your boss’ responsibility – or even their fault.

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 19: The Resilience of Storytelling Hinges on Hope

We are all storytellers. That’s just one of the things I learned on the most recent episode the Think Tank on Resilience. Why does it matter? Because each of us has the ability to use the stories we tell to strengthen our own resilience and those of our people. Our colleagues, our teams, even our families.

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 18: Choosing Between Two Futures

All change requires resilience, but some are harder than others. This month on the Think Tank on Resilience we focused on one that is (surprisingly) tough at work: Internal technology changes With the help of two brilliant professionals, we asked how companies can make tech changes easier and more successful for their teams. Twelve different strategies emerged, any one of which can make things better.

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 15: How to Stay Resilient AND Engaged During Elections

How impacted are you every day by the President of the United States? Unless you work in government, the answer is probably “not that much.” Which, as our guests on this month’s Think Tank on Resilience noted, makes it pretty easy to convince ourselves that politics aren’t that important. Except, as KP Simmons (one of our brilliant expert) noted, you probably are impacted by politics a great deal. You pay – and earn – interest at the going rate. You live with – and are protected by – regulations. You walk on sidewalks (or not), lit by streetlights (or not) next to roads patrolled by emergency personnel. You pay taxes, you may cross a border, you likely use health insurance. And so the outcomes of politics effect you every single day. Which is why voting matters. So how can we stay engaged in the political process of an election season when it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed, drained, scared or angry due to what we see?

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 17: A Leadership Secret to Resilience

Hi! There are so many things we wish for ourselves and our people. For most of us, that list includes strength, resilience, motivation, connection, success. This last Think Tank episode was filled with wisdom and a silver bullet way to get all that for ourselves and others. I hope you’ll watch it or listen to it and let me know your thoughts. Wishing you a sweet and easy slide into 2025 and we’ll catch you again in January when we tackle… technology stress!

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 16: Community Resilience Makes The Difference

What is your “community?” When you read that do you think about your geography or your identities or your gathering spaces? Do you think about people you know online or in person? Are you a member of one community or dozens? This month on Dr. G’s Think Tank on Resilience we tackled this central question: “What is community resilience and how can we get more of it?”

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 14: When Someone is Suffering Don’t Make it Worse

Hi! Imagine this: someone on your team at work or someone you’re connected to in your community gets terrible news. Their mom has an aggressive cancer or their partner leaves them suddenly or they are the victim of a violent crime. What do you do? How do you approach them and what can you possibly say?

Dr G's Think Tank on Resilience Event 13: Denial is about more - and less - than fear

The topic? Denial. What is behind the refusal we encounter in other adults to talk about necessary but difficult topics? What strategies work to move those conversations forward in the face of avoidance, excuses, outright refusal? Our experts? A former sex crimes prosecutor who has made prevention of child sexual abuse into her life’s work. A public health expert working with underserved communities to decrease HIV, diabetes, and other harms. A financial services expert who teaches others in his field to get people to focus on reducing debt and increasing their own future financial stability. All people well versed in dealing with denial.
