What an exhilarating episode this was to do! We discuss everything related to the world of The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai. From underdogs and over-inflated egos to the bullied and their bullies; we get into the whole gamut in this discussion of the formative years/coming of age experience, in tandem with the concepts of rising above mistreatment, and learning how to stand up for yourself, or some adjacent versions of it. And all of that is only magnified by our connecting conversation about that passion for films and series like The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai, and other similar ones that paved the way for those to even happen; and the ones that were made manifest or possible because they happened. The Karate Kid universe was partly responsible for bringing just one facet of martial arts on film to a more widespread, mainstream audience, by coupling it with the quintessential underdog/high school experience narrative. We, in this first part of episode 7, in unanticipated fashion, found ourselves in a deeper waters discussion, as we not only got into what the implications of this live boxing event might be, but also just the state of the world in general, as it pertains to the roles the Paul brothers play in the lives of so many, and their impact on society and social media. Love them or hate them, it can't be denied that they are a force to be reckoned with. Now, whether they are a force for good or not, is the topic of much debate. We very freely offer our fervent opinions on that subject, and hope to dispel any misgivings one might have about how much it's so glaringly apparent that it shouldn't even be debatable which side they fall on. This is the second portion of our multi-segment sixth episode (We really dive deeper in this segment, discussing our favorite heroes [and their movies], the Snyder DCEU era, and much more, so jump in with us!). It's been a long time coming, and we're so excited to finally be bringing you into our conversation about comic book stories adapted to the big, and small screens. It's obviously a very familiar bit of subject matter, but we believe we're bringing a fresh perspective to it as a whole. Cinematic superheroes and how they've been adapted has become quite the hot button topic of discussion as of late. But don't worry, we'll put our cold hands all over it. As far as we're concerned, it's really silly how much the world, and yes even Hollywood has lost sight of why we ever even wanted to see our heroes be depicted on film to begin with. If we could all just return to the simplicity of what the subgenre of Superheroes/Fantasy truly represents, then maybe the dividing line will become blurrier and blurrier as our wonder, hope, and awe in something greater comes into focus again. We have a lot of fun delving into all the many facets of the superhero conversation. And are we perhaps being a bit overzealous about this whole idea, or is there even such a thing?
