Safety is often seen as a "bad word" in the workplace especially industrial workplaces. As workers we feel the pressure to perform and the view is health and safety is an obstacle in our way. We talk to safety professionals of all facets about their projects, successes that fostered healthy safety cultures in the workplace, and pitfalls of safety societies.

    Industrial S-Word - Episode 3 - Frank Tomei, Professional Engineer

    Frank Tomei was involved with heavy industry fabricating structural steel, manufacturing spiral welded pipe, the manufacturing of welded wire mesh, the production gravity concrete pipe and related products. He also worked in letter processing and parcel processing. Later in life, Frank, worked for a safety organization providing training to industry and in particular and specialized in the safeguarding of machinery and in particular the pre-start health and safety review. He travelled the province putting on seminars trying to educate industry and engineers on this new provision (2001 October 7) of Regulatory requirement Regulation 851 Industrial Establishments. He has been practicing as a professional engineer on safety related projects ever since Frank joined IAPA now WSPS in the year 2000. At Humber, Frank teaches various courses related to Millwright. These are courses such as safety, using hand tools, using a lathe, using a vertical mill, hydraulics etc.
