On May 31, 2014, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier lured their 12-year-old friend, Payton Leutner, into a forest after a sleepover, attempting to take her life to appease the fictional character and internet cryptid, Slender Man. Geyser and Weier believed that by sacrificing their friend in Slender Man's name, they would be invited to live in his mansion as his "proxies."
