NEW SERIES! S3 EP1: Head and Neck Cancer with Joss Harding

On The Eastman Dental Podcast this week, Jocelyn (Joss) Harding joins Julia and Josh for the first episode of Series 3.Joss started her dental career in the Royal Navy at the age of 19, where she completed training and qualified as a dental hygienist. In her 9-year career, Joss served in the UK and abroad, supporting general dentists and specialists. Joss is now a clinical ambassador for the Mouth Cancer Foundation and part of the working party updating the 2021 GOV.UK DBOH guidelines in the prevention and early detection of mouth cancer. She is also a part of the United Kingdom Oral Management in Cancer care group (UKOMIC) and the World Dental Federation (FDI) consensus group. She is also studying an MSc in Advanced and Specialist Healthcare at the University of Kent and her book, "Care of Head and Neck Cancer Patients for Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists" has been published by Wiley.For more information visit: linktr.ee/EDHEC

S2 EP11: Finding your Perfect Practice with Rachel Leigh

Rachel started her career as a Dental Nurse before becoming a practice manager and then deciding to re-train as a Dental Therapist. Over the last 25 years she estimates that she has worked at close to 30 locations across various part time roles in both community and dental practice. From locum positions in tiny surgeries with only 3 blunt instruments, to luxury practices with the best equipment you can find - Rachel has worked at them all. This week’s guest is Mark Price. Mark’s career in dentistry started young, with him pursuing an apprenticeship as a Dental Technician after spending many hours in a dental lab after school. From these early days his career progressed to him developing his own dental lab before deciding to take the plunge into clinical dentistry and undergo further training to become a Clinical Dental Technician. He now has a keen interest in both the clinical and technical aspects of full arch implant treatments and enjoys the complexities these involve. Andrew Noon initially trained as a Dental Technician, working at Guy's Dental Hospital producing orthodontic appliances for 15 years. Following the birth of his son, he decided it was finally time to become patient facing and pivoted back into education to retrain as an Orthodontic Therapist. Since then, he hasn’t looked back and now works in multiple specialist orthodontic practices whilst also continuing to utilise his dental technology skills. Jennie Scrace has undertaken several different roles. After initially pursuing training in Dental Nursing and then on going to become a Dental Hygienist, she then turned her career direction 180 to become a small business owner. After finding the hours long and realising she missed the connection with her patients, Jennie retrained to become a life coach. This week she joins Julia and Josh to talk about her interesting career journey, the experiences that lead her along this path and how she still uses the lessons she learnt in her dental career on a daily basis. This week’s guest is Steve Campbell. Steve has worked as a dental technician for over 25 years providing all aspects of restorative dentistry with a particular focus on implants. His passion for dental technology has evolved over time and he opened and began to run his fully digital dental laboratory in 2015. In addition to his business, Steve is an executive committee member for the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and current president of the Dental Laboratories association. Anna Middleton joins the podcast this week to discuss her career to date. Anna is a dental therapist working in private practice whilst concurrently acting as a key opinion leader for multiple dental companies. You may know her as the ‘London Hygienist’ which is her popular Instagram handle. She has undertaken a range of different roles within the dental world and has a keen interest in empowering her hygiene and therapy colleagues. S2 EP4: A Dental Nurse that 'Didn't take no for an answer' with Fiona Ellwood

This week Julia and Josh are joined by Fiona Ellwood. Fiona is a dental nurse by profession and has had an amazing and inspiring career to date. She has held high positions in numerous dental societies, is an international speaker as well as a prolific writer and editor for the Dental Nursing Journal and BDJ teams. She has been involved in a variety of education projects both as a student herself and as an educator, and has advised on several national policies and projects. For this work she has been commended as the first dental care professional to receive an honorary fellowship from the FGDP and received the British Empire Medal for services to dentistry in 2019.
