Invictus In Adversity: Chapter 2 Foster Care

Chapter 2: Foster Care Chris Lucas was placed in foster care in 1971, initially with the Wests and then permanently with Mrs. Rose Collier in Manchester. The Colliers, a white couple with six children, also fostered about eight other kids in their three-bedroom house. Despite the crowded conditions, Chris felt loved and treated well, particularly by Rose, whom he called Mum. He cherished his time with the Collier family, including playing with neighborhood kids and attending church. Despite being the only black child for a while, Chris didn’t face racism at home. His narrative reflects a mix of adventure, belonging, and challenges, culminating in his move to start his own life after completing a carpentry apprenticeship.

As they prepare to return home, an unexpected twist leaves them in a mysterious wilderness, pondering their whereabouts and when they are.
