In this episode of The Daily Derech, Rabbi Marcus Rubenstein explores Parashat Noach, Hilchot Shabbat, and a teaching from Menorat HaMaor about recognizing God as the source of our blessings.

The Me’am Loez section examines Noah’s drunkenness and his sons’ responses, emphasizing the importance of protecting others’ dignity rather than exposing their embarrassing moments. Noah’s identity as a devoted farmer also illustrates how attachment to something we love can become harmful when it overshadows our service to God.

The Rambam section explains the minimum amount of work that constitutes a forbidden labor on Shabbat and how liability applies when multiple people perform a task together. Responsibility depends on whether the work could have been completed by one person alone.

The Menorat HaMaor explores how the flood generation’s prosperity fostered arrogance and disregard for God. Their reliance on natural resources ultimately became their downfall, teaching that blessings come from God, not merely from the things themselves.
