Episode notes
Wealthy guests arrive at a luxury Hawaiian resort where manager Armond maintains perfect hospitality while cracks appear beneath the surface. Newlyweds Shane and Rachel clash over a room booking error, the Mossbacher family vacation is overshadowed by medical anxiety and privilege critiques, and grieving Tanya seeks healing through an increasingly intense relationship with spa manager Belinda. The episode opens with an ominous flash-forward revealing someone will die at the resort during what was supposed to be Shane's honeymoon week.
This premiere establishes the central power dynamics and class tensions that will drive the season's escalating conflicts. You'll understand how the resort's "tropical kabuki" philosophy masks real human complexity, why Shane's entitlement puts him on a collision course with Armond, and how each guest's personal crisis creates pressure points that threaten the White Lotus's carefully maintained paradise illusion.
