Introduction (Chapter 1:1-14) This message launches our new study through Paul’s letter to the Colossians. Though only four chapters long, this book holds some of the richest theology in the New Testament—reminding us of the supremacy of Christ, the dangers of drifting into error, and the call to walk faithfully in a culture hostile to truth. In this introduction, we explore the background of Colossae and its cultural challenges, Paul’s concern for this young church and his prayer for their spiritual growth, the threat of Gnosticism and legalism and why truth mixed with error is no longer truth, and how belief and behavior are inseparably linked in the Christian life.
