A hurricane took a bench off a causeway in Florida.

Two years later it washed up on a beach in Bermuda, a thousand miles away, under the barnacles, with a sentence carved into it.

A woman found it on the day she least needed to be alone.

Also this morning: a town that has declared itself a spaceport. A country that has moved against a pair of spectacles. A hundred and eight degrees in California and frost on the grass in Virginia, on the same morning. And twenty five thousand years of history where the only one who wrote any of it down was the grass.
