According to the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress, which uses the same tests across all states, only 33% of all Pennsylvania 4th grade students were proficient in reading and only 41% of 4th grade students tested proficient in math.
By the time students were tested in 8th grade, the proficiency levels dropped: 31% proficiency in reading, and 31% proficiency in math.
