God told Moses to make a bronze snake—an image of the very thing killing the people—and lift it up on a pole. Anyone who looked at it would live. He didn't remove the snakes. He gave them something to look at in the middle of the snakes. Centuries later, Jesus called this moment a picture of himself. "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life." The strange provision. The simple act of looking. The life that came not from fighting the venom but from fixing the eyes on what God had lifted up.
