Day 258—Grief and the Longer View: 2 Samuel 12:15–31 + Psalm 32

David fasted and lay on the ground while the child was alive. When the child died, he rose, washed his face, and went to worship. His servants couldn't understand it. He explained: while the child lived, I had something to ask for. Now it is over. But not entirely. He said what he knew: I shall go to him. Day 257—You Are the Man: 2 Samuel 12:1–14 + Psalm 51

Nathan walked through David's door with a story about a lamb. A year of silence, and it took four words to break it open: You are the man. The mercy was immediate. The consequences were real. Day 256—The Night That Changed Everything: 2 Samuel 11

Day 255—When Kindness Is Rejected: 2 Samuel 10

Day 251—Anchored and Afraid: 2 Samuel 5:6–6:11

David just took the city no one could take. He defeated the Philistines twice. He is king at last, and he gives God the credit for all of it. David is crowned over all Israel at thirty. Behind that number: wilderness, exile, civil war, and years of refusing to take by force what God had promised. Baanah and Rechab brought him the head of his rival. David buried it and executed them. He would not receive the crown that way. And then the elders came. And the promise arrived. Day 249—The Long Way There: 2 Samuel 2:8–3:39

David was anointed king over Judah. The full crown was not yet his. For seven and a half years, the war continued—men fought, an ally was murdered, losses arrived that David hadn't caused and couldn't undo. And in the middle of it, he said plainly: I am this day weak, though anointed king. He was anointed and weak at the same time. Both were true.
