Episode notes
Could you fall in love with a Martian?
In this episode of the 0g-SPOT Podcast, Eric and Alicia are joined by evolutionary biologist Scott Solomon, author of Becoming Martian, to explore one of the biggest questions humanity may someday face:
What happens after we settle another planet?
From genetics and attraction to reproduction and evolution, the conversation examines how future generations born on Mars could become physically, biologically, and culturally different from the people who stayed on Earth.
Together they discuss:
- Could humans eventually become a new species on Mars?
- Would Earthlings and Martians still be attracted to each other?
- How gravity, radiation, and microbiomes could reshape human evolution
- Why larger brains, different skin colors, and even new body odors might emerge
- The ethics of selecting the first Martian settlers
- Whether genetic engineering should play a role in humanity's future beyond Earth
Along the way, they explore Neanderthals, pheromones, Martian sheep, sci-fi predictions, and what it truly means to remain human as we spread across the solar system.
Because someday...
your soulmate might not be from Earth.
