The Watchers in The Fourth Dimension and The Journey Through Time and Space
Watchers in The Fourth Dimension (W4D) are an Atlanta-based podcast quartet comprising Anthony Williams, Don Smith, Reilly Schreck, and Julie Filipek. They're currently approximately one-third of their way through a watch-through and commentary of the original 1963-1989 run of popular British sci-fi series Doctor Who, and then they'll continue straight on into the movie and the 2005-present series. No small task have they taken on! They're fun, warm, funny, and enjoyable to listen to - and they're very good at the production end of their awesome show! In this episode, we discuss who they are, where they're from, and all their secrets of podcasting awesomeness. If you would like to watch through with them (I highly recommend that!), ALMOST all of the classic series of Doctor Who is on Britbox, or Pluto.tv, and many reconstructions of missing episodes can be found around on the internet or on official DVD/Blu-Ray. As always, if you would like to give me a shout, please do so at mikecaseycomposer@icloud.com, or find me on IG/FB: @mikecaseycomposer. Dr. Tim Banks and The Process of Reinvention
My college experience was, to my knowledge, relatively unique and certainly more indicative of a small school environment. The faculty was a cast of (easily mimicked) characters, and we loved them dearly. It was a great place at a great time! One who left an indelible mark on me and my attitude towards learning was Dr. Timothy Banks. We discuss who he is, and who he was and will be, to such extent that it needn't be mentioned here. To that end, I hope you enjoy! We discuss all of the above, and his attitude toward constant reinvention, even as one enters retirement. It's a fascinating talk! Selfishly, I left in a great deal of his oral history of the School of Music at Samford University. Much of the information probably can't be found elsewhere, and for SU students, this will be a good place to keep it archived. I hope you'll forgive a bit of self-indulgence! Zack Annesty and The Breaking of The Rules
Hello there! One more late one before hopefully getting back on schedule. I think you're going to dig this one - My dear friend, Zack Annesty has a lot of great credits to his name as he's moved up the ladder at Marvel Studios. He's also worked with the DC television universe and several other notable projects. He's a busy guy! Here, we talk about the path that led him to where he is now. We also dig into some of the changes that have some in the industry in terms of worker safety, and what needs to come, still. This is a huge deal to him as he moves his career forward, and he is always an advocate for the lives and safety of those on set. Lots to digest here! Enjoy it! Dr. Gene Fambrough and The Way of The Drum
Dr. Gene Fambrough is a cool dude. Period. I've met very few people who have such a come-one-come-all vibe. He’s in his 21st(!!!) year as Percussion Boss and Assistant Band Director at The University of Alabama-Birmingham. His program is a huge asset to the university! His story, for this telling, is a story of a budding young musician who just liked to try things who then grew up to inspire others to do the same. You host, included! I know you'll enjoy the talk! Have a great week, and thank you for just your being you! 143 a tutti! As always, please share, like, subscribe...all the usuals! Mike Casey and The Journey To Podcast Land
Here we are. This is not something I expected to do! But a spark of an idea caught fire in my mind, inspired by stellar podcast hosts Jamie Lidell (Hanging Out With Audiophiles) and Richard Schrieber (The Richard Schrieber Show). Links to their sites below. As Jamie would say, ''let's get on with the show!" This week, I start with a guest host - MARVELous Nerdcast co-host, Emily Annesty! Sandwich Monologue 004 - Expect! Don't Accept!
Bonus
Mediocrity is abundant, and always has been. Why stand in the middle of the crowd? This week, I discuss a strategy for finding your way through crippling perfectionism to allow yourself to relax and release a project - or - on the other side of the coin, how to get up and get something going. Next week, I speak with vocalist, conductor, composer/arranger, and all-around gentleman, Dr. Timothy Banks. Dr. Banks is the composer-in-residence and primary singer for the Eternal World Television Network, and is one of my former college professors. He is a joy, and as he would put it, a hoot! Join us! Sandwich Monologue 003 - Always Meet Your Heroes (They're People, Too!)
Bonus
This week, I'd like to take a moment to encourage you to reach out to those artists and creators that are important to you in your development but may not know it. I discuss this topic, and how it's been present in my life for the last 20 years. The people that create the art you love started the same place you started...regardless of the talent (see SM002 to hear how I feel about that) or skill they've achieved - they are humans, just like you! Sandwich Monologue 002 - Just Hammering & Sawing
Bonus
Welcome to the worksite, humans. Hope you brought your hard hats! This week we discuss the imbalanced weight that people place on talent versus good old-fashioned work. This is something that I have to remind myself every so often - the people that show up and do the job are usually the ones who succeed in the end. Next week's full episode will be a discussion with University of Alabama - Birmingham Assistant Director of Bands/Associate Professor of Percussion, Dr. Gene Fambrough! Dr. Fambrough is a published composer/arranger, and a recording artist, and just a generally awesome dude to know! Hope you'll join us for the chat! As always - let me know what you think! You are AMAZING for taking the time to listen to my ramblings!!! Socials: IG/FB - @mikecaseycomposer email: mikecaseycomposer@icloud.com web: mikecaseycomposer.com
