We're looking back at some older work we've done, discussing last year's summer series, wherein we discussed Paul's vision for the church, and how we can live it out in our own communities. Since we didn't do a deep dive into Paul and his vision for the community that became the church, we spent some time this week digging deep into how Paul discusses the life of the covenant commuinity. Beth shares her family’s deep roots on the Wheatland Flats since the late 1880s, including ditch digging for early irrigation, homesteading, and involvement in founding Wheatland businesses, as well as her father’s role in adopting new farming technology like the first center-pivot sprinkler in the area. We explores community responsibility, place-based identity and “neo-Indigeneity,” resentment toward idealized or commodified versions of ranching, and Beth’s decision to leave for Las Vegas to find anonymity before returning for the support and community she valued as a parent. How does a frontier medical system deal with specialty care needs? With some difficulty, it seems is the answer. We sit down with Lori Modesitt, a longtime board member of the local hospital, and a volunteer for Platte Paratransit, a local nonprofit that offers transport to medical appointments as well as Chemotherapy and Dialysis.
