Episode 58: Don't Go Back To The Mess

📖 Proverbs 26:11 — “As a dog returns to its vomit, so also a fool repeats his foolishness.” Okay… this one’s kind of gross. The Bible says, “As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness.” Yep, it’s nasty. But that’s exactly why you’ll remember it — because God wanted it to stick. Here’s what it means: when we keep going back to the same mistakes, same bad habits, or same unwise choices, it’s like going back to something disgusting that we should’ve walked away from. Think about it — maybe God helped you out of a bad attitude, a toxic friendship, or a habit that was pulling you down. But then you find yourself slipping back into it again. It’s like saying, “God, thanks for cleaning me up… but I think I’ll go roll in the mess again.” And if Jesus were standing in front of you — He wouldn’t yell or shame you. He’d look at you with love and say, “You don’t have to go back there. I set you free from that.” He’d remind you that He’s already washed you clean — and He wants you to keep walking forward, not back. Sometimes the enemy tries to convince you that you’ll never change, that you’ll always be stuck. But that’s a lie. The truth is — every time you choose wisdom over foolishness, every time you say “no” to the old and “yes” to God, you’re proving that His Spirit lives in you.

Episode 57: Joy Is A Choice

📖 Philippians 4:4 — “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Joy doesn’t always come naturally. Sometimes it’s something we have to choose. When Paul wrote this verse — “Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again, rejoice!” — he wasn’t sitting on a beach or celebrating a big victory. He was actually in prison. He had been beaten, chained, and abandoned by people he trusted. Yet in the middle of all that, Paul chose to tell himself, “Rejoice.” He didn’t wait for everything to be perfect. He decided that even in pain, even in uncertainty, he would still find joy — not because of his situation, but because of his Savior. And that’s what real joy is. It’s not pretending everything’s okay. It’s knowing that even when life is hard, God is still good. It’s saying, “I may not understand this right now, but I trust the One who holds my tomorrow.” Sometimes you have to remind your own heart to rejoice. You have to speak it before you feel it. Because joy isn’t based on what’s happening around you — it’s rooted in the One who never changes.

Episode 56: God Finishes What He Starts

God Finishes What He Starts 📖 Philippians 1:6 — “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Sometimes we look at our lives and feel like we’re still under construction — still struggling, still learning, still trying to get it right. It can be discouraging when you don’t feel like you’ve arrived yet. But Philippians 1:6 reminds us of something powerful: God finishes what He starts. That means if He started a good work in you — He’s not done yet. Think about how an artist paints a masterpiece. It doesn’t look complete in the middle — there are messy brushstrokes and layers that don’t make sense yet. But the artist knows exactly what the finished picture will look like. That’s how God works in us. Even when all we see is the mess, He sees the masterpiece. Sometimes, God’s work takes time. Joseph spent years in prison before God fulfilled His plan. Moses spent forty years in the wilderness before leading Israel. Even the disciples made mistakes before they became bold preachers of the gospel. But in every story, God didn’t quit — He completed His purpose. So if you feel stuck or unfinished right now, remember this: you are a work in progress, and that’s okay. The God who began His work in you has no intention of leaving you halfway. He’s still shaping you, still growing you, and still writing your story — and He always finishes strong.

Episode 55: God Can Use A Donkey

God Can Use a Donkey 📖 Numbers 22:28 — “Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to Balaam, ‘What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?’” You’re not going to believe this story — it’s one of the funniest and most unexpected moments in the entire Bible. There was a man named Balaam who was on his way to do something that God didn’t want him to do. He was riding his donkey down the road, but suddenly the donkey stopped. Balaam couldn’t see it, but an angel of the Lord was standing right in front of them. The donkey saw the angel — Balaam didn’t. So the donkey turned off the road. Balaam got mad and hit the donkey to make it move forward. This happened again and again until finally — and here’s the amazing part — God opened the donkey’s mouth, and the donkey actually talked! It said, “Why are you hitting me? Haven’t I been a good donkey to you all these years?” That’s when Balaam realized God was trying to get his attention. Sometimes, we’re just like Balaam — rushing ahead with our own plans and missing what God is trying to say. But God has a way of stopping us in our tracks and speaking through unexpected things and people. God can use anyone — a friend, a child, a stranger, or even a donkey — to get His message across. You don’t have to be perfect, famous, or important for God to use you. You just have to be willing and listening.

Episode 54: Don't Look Back

Hey friends! Today I want to tell you a story from the Bible about a woman who couldn’t stop looking back. God was about to destroy two very wicked cities called Sodom and Gomorrah because of all the evil happening there. But before it happened, He sent two angels to rescue a man named Lot and his family. The angels told them, “Hurry! Run for your lives! Don’t look back!” So Lot, his wife, and their daughters started running toward safety. But as they were leaving, Lot’s wife turned around to look back at the city — even though God said not to. And in that moment, she turned into a pillar of salt. She didn’t trust God’s command. Maybe she missed her old life or just couldn’t let go. But looking back kept her from the future God had planned. Sometimes we do the same thing — we keep looking back at the past. Maybe it’s a mistake we made, a friendship that changed, or a situation we can’t stop thinking about. But God is calling us forward. He has new things, better things, waiting for us. When we focus too much on what’s behind us, we can miss what’s ahead. You can’t move forward while your heart is stuck in the past. So whatever God has asked you to leave behind — trust Him and don’t look back.

Episode 53: God Is Working Behind The Scenes

Hey friends! I have some trivia for you — which book of the Bible never actually mentions God by name? …Did you guess it? It’s the book of Esther! Sometimes we can feel just like that — like God isn’t even there or like He’s quiet while things are happening in our lives. But even when we can’t see Him or hear Him clearly, God is still working behind the scenes. In the story of Esther, a young woman becomes queen of Persia — and at first, it just seems like an ordinary story about a brave girl in a big palace. But later, when her people were in danger, Esther realized that God had placed her right where she needed to be to help save them. Even though God’s name is never mentioned in the book, you can see His fingerprints all over the story — guiding Esther, giving her courage, and working everything out for good. Sometimes in our own lives, we don’t see what God is doing. Maybe our prayers feel unanswered, or we’re waiting for something to change. But that doesn’t mean God isn’t moving. He’s arranging things we can’t see — opening doors, preparing hearts, and setting up blessings we don’t even know about yet. So keep trusting Him, keep doing what’s right, and remember: just because you can’t see God doesn’t mean He’s not there. He’s always working behind the scenes for your good.

Episode 52: When You Don't Understand, Obey Anyway

Welcome back to Strong and Courageous! Has God ever asked you to do something that didn’t make sense? Maybe it felt weird, scary, or confusing. You’re not the first person to feel that way — Noah did too! In Genesis 6, God told Noah to build a giant ark because a flood was coming. Can you imagine how strange that must’ve sounded? People probably laughed and thought he was crazy. But Noah trusted God. He obeyed even when it didn’t make sense — and that obedience saved his whole family. Sometimes God asks us to do things that others don’t understand — like forgiving someone, being kind to someone who’s mean, or standing up for what’s right. When you obey, even when it’s hard, you show your faith in God. Remember, God sees the bigger picture — and obedience always brings blessing.

Episode 51: Faith Starts Small

Hey friends! Have you ever looked at someone’s big faith and thought, “Wow, I wish I could believe like that”? Here’s the good news — faith doesn’t have to start big. Jesus said even a tiny bit of faith can do amazing things. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus said, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.” A mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds in the world — but when it’s planted, it grows into a big tree. Faith isn’t about how big it looks; it’s about where it’s placed. Even a small “God, I trust You” can grow into something strong when you keep believing. So don’t be discouraged if your faith feels small — plant it, water it with prayer, and watch what God can do.

Episode 50: God Can Turn A Mistake Into A Miracle

Hey everyone! Have you ever made a mistake and thought, “That’s it — I’ve messed everything up”? You’re not alone. Even one of Jesus’ closest friends, Peter, made a huge mistake — but God turned it into something beautiful. The night Jesus was arrested, Peter said three times that he didn’t even know Jesus. Right after that, a rooster crowed, and Peter felt terrible. He cried because he knew he had failed. But after Jesus rose from the dead, He didn’t push Peter away. In John 21, Jesus talked with Peter and asked him three times, “Do you love Me?” Each time Peter said yes — and Jesus gave him a new mission: “Feed My sheep.” God didn’t see Peter as a failure — He saw Peter’s heart. God used Peter to help start the early church! So when you make a mistake, don’t give up. Tell God you’re sorry, learn from it, and let Him use it to grow you stronger.

Episode 49: God Sees What Others Miss

Hey friends, welcome back to Strong and Courageous! Have you ever felt like people overlook you — like maybe others get picked first, or your efforts go unnoticed? Well, guess what? God sees what others miss. In 1 Samuel 16, the prophet Samuel was looking for the next king of Israel. He saw Jesse’s sons, and they all looked strong and tall. But God said, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for the Lord does not look at the things people look at. The Lord looks at the heart.” Then they brought in the youngest son — David. He wasn’t the biggest or the oldest, but God saw something special in him: a heart that loved Him. Sometimes we think we’re too small, too quiet, or not talented enough to matter. But God doesn’t see like people do. He notices your kindness, your prayers, and your faithfulness when no one else does. If you’re doing the right thing and no one seems to notice, keep going — because God sees, and He’s proud of you.
