The commander of the Lord's army answers, "No." The real question is not whether God is on our side. It is whether we are on his. Preached September 20, 2026 by Adam Miller · Series: Book of Joshua · Text: Joshua 3:1–5:12 Israel crosses the Jordan on dry ground, sets up twelve memorial stones, renews circumcision, and keeps the Passover. God gave these "divine object lessons" so that children would ask, "What do these stones mean?" This sermon asks how faithfully we pass on God's works to the next generation, including through baptism and the Lord's Table. When a generation forgets, the result is the Book of Judges. She calls on the Lord by his covenant name and asks for chesed, or steadfast love. The scarlet cord in her window marks her house to be spared, and she becomes an ancestor of Jesus.
