Sunspot 4366, a rapidly expanding and unstable region on the sun, has erupted with 27 solar flares in 24 hours, including four X-class flares. This activity, characterised by a sustained bombardment of flares, raises concerns about potential geomagnetic storms, even if the coronal mass ejection (CME) misses Earth. The situation is being closely monitored, as the sunspot’s behaviour mirrors the pattern leading up to the Carrington event of 1859, which caused widespread electrical disruptions.
