Crime and Consequence: A Moral or Societal Dilemma?
Inspired by the book shares surrounding criminology in our school’s AP English Language and Composition class, I accidentally discovered an old debate. From B. F. Skinner’s deterministic ideologies to Immanuel Kant’s free will arguments, we began to dig into the two main arguments in the human nature of crime. Today, we will delve into one of the oldest philosophical debates: Are criminals products of their environment, or morally accountable agents?
Virtual High School at SAS: Reflections and Advice
Richard, Lucy, and Bruce have a chat about taking a course with Virtual High School (VHS), a third-party organization that offers courses that the SAS internal curriculum does not offer. We discuss the pros and cons (mostly cons) of the VHS experience, the process for enrolling in a VHS course, and what we would say to current sophomores and juniors who are considering VHS as an option.
