“When I started, I wasn’t sure if I’d get a single donation. I was handing out food alone. There was much criticism, and only a little support that kept me going. First my close ones joined to help, then volunteers around the world. Eventually in our second year, I received $74,000, enough to keep going for 10+ years. I don’t even ask for donations any more.

“The more I help people, the stronger my empathy grows. It doesn’t take that much to become homeless. Say you have an addiction and nobody to pull you out of it, you spiral down, lose your job and can’t afford rent, and now you’re homeless. I’ve seen addiction happen with my close friends.
