As Jesus is taken down from the cross and laid in the tomb, Mark draws our attention to faithful women who remained near and Joseph of Arimathea, a courageous disciple who risked his reputation to honor the body of Christ. The sealed tomb leaves no question: Jesus truly died. Yet for those who belong to Him, something else was buried there as well. Our sin was laid upon Christ and carried with Him into the grave. Because our sin is in the tomb, we can boldly identify with the One who was laid in the tomb, publicly following Christ in baptism, witness, and a life shaped by the gospel.
