Syrian Monologues Podcast: Introduction

Directed by: Brittney Anderson Featuring: Hannah Moore, Sarah Bastian, Jackie Marino-Thomas Welcome to the opening monologue presented by the organizers of the Refugee Monologues Project. The organizers want you to understand that refugee stories are complicated and are not just written by refugees but also those they left behind. While the opening stories are related to the war in Syria between 2011 and 2019, refugees come from all parts of the world and experience the same feelings of hope, loss, nostalgia, longing, and inspiration.

Syrian Monologues Podcast: Khlood

Directed by: Bren Leone Featuring: Aleah Beche The monologue of Khlood, mid 20s. She is spending the night at her mother’s home in the suburbs of Damascus in June of 2014. She is here knocking at her mother’s bedroom, she just woke up from the sounds of bombs.

Directed by: Kelly Kreiger Featuring: Roberto Delgado The monologue of Mamdouh, a 70 year old, retired teacher living in a small town close to Homs in Syria. He is on the phone with his daughter who is a Syrian refugee in Germany. He is asking his daughter to let him speak to his wife who stopped talking with him after she became a refugee in Germany.

Directed by: Kel Fleming Featuring: Kaitlyn Zion The monologue of Souad, a Syrian refugee Woman in her 70s living in Germany. She is telling her therapist why she stopped talking to her husband who is still in Syria.

Directed by: Teayra Bowden Featuring: Hayden Eric The monologue of Hasan, a widower in his 70s living in a small town next to Aleppo, Syria. He is processing his future after his daughters have resettled in Germany and he remains in Syria.

Directed by: Bren Leone Featuring: Christina Carelli The monologue of Hala, a 65 year old retired art teacher, living as a refugee in Stockholm. She lives alone. We listen to him here talking with her friend in a coffee shop.

Directed by: Kelly Kreiger Featuring: Roberto Delgado The monologue of Khaled, a 60 year old nurse, who lives in Damascus. It is Spring of 2017. His children are refugees in the Netherlands. He is telling his neighbor about them.

Directed by: Teayra Bowden Featuring: Leah Savin The monologue of Fadia, a 55 year old teacher living in the suburb of Damascus. Most of her family are refugees in Germany. She is reminiscing her memories of Syria.
