What Is the Bible Even For?

What Is the Bible Even For? Imagine you wanted to bake a cake, but needed to find a recipe. Would you look for it in the Bible? It is God’s Word, after all, and He’s the creator of the universe—and the universe includes cake. Still, you’d probably choose a different book to find baking instructions. Now imagine you wanted to know whether it would rain next Friday. Would you look in the Bible to find the forecast? It isthe God-breathed Scripture from the creator of the weather, right? You still probably wouldn’t turn to Scripture to see if you should pack an umbrella. Why are we starting here? Because we can trust the Bible to do what it was built to do. Yes, it is God’s Word, but its inspired status doesn’t mean it was written to answer every question. And it certainly doesn’t make it immune from being twisted, misinterpreted, and abused. How We Approach the Bible Matters So, what kind of book is the Bible? The Bible contains history, but it’s not a history book. The Bible discusses the natural world, but it’s not a science book. It contains laws, but it’s not a book of modern legislation. And the Bible shares practical advice, but it’s not a self-help book. If you had to distill it into a single word, you might say that it’s a book of wisdom. Wisdom is a fusion of knowledge, empathy, and experience that allows us to partner with God in His plans and make choices that honor Him. We can trust the Bible to give us wisdom. Why does this matter? Many people struggle to trust the Bible because they want it to be something it’s not. If you approached the Bible as a recipe book, you might end up hunting for Bible verses that include cooking ingredients, and assume passages without food don’t matter. If things really escalated, you might even go around telling people that God wants everyone to make myrrh muffins or frankincense fries. Sounds silly, right? But what if we misunderstood the Bible in a way that wasn’t so harmless? What if we viewed the Bible as just a rule book designed to help us stay on God’s good side and recognize who’s on God’s bad side? It could cause us to highlight Bible verses that affirm our own holiness, and twist other verses to cast blame on everyone who disagrees with us. Jesus often met people like this during His ministry. At one point, He called out a group of religious leaders who’d devoted their whole lives to reading and teaching the Bible, yet they still didn’t know what the Bible was really for. Jesus repeatedly brought people back to what mattered most: loving God and loving others. Scripture is designed to help form those life-giving connections, not give religious people another way to feel superior. How to Trust the Bible We can trust the Bible when we understand what it’s for. It won’t give us a cake recipe or next week’s forecast. It also won’t work very well as a shortcut for proving we’re right. But it can show us what God is like. It can comfort us, challenge our assumptions, expose anything harmful in us, and help us see our choices differently. Through its many types of books, we find a story that leads us to Jesus and shows us how to love God and the people around us. You can trust the Bible to help you know God, become more like Jesus, and prepare you to do good. Try This: Before you read the Bible today, pray, “God, show me what You’re like and how I can become more like Jesus.”
Season 157

Restoring Stolen Virtues And Opportunities

RECOVERING STOLEN VIRTUES AND OPPORTUNITIES VERSES: Joel 2:25 — “I will restore to you the years…” Obadiah 1:17 — “Upon Mount Zion there shall be deliverance.” Psalm 126:1 — “When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion…” The enemy seeks to steal time, opportunities, peace, and spiritual virtue from believers. But God is a Restorer. What was lost through warfare, delay, fear, or manipulation can be restored through prayer and divine intervention. Nothing is impossible for God. He restores broken dreams, lost opportunities, and wasted years. Even when the enemy celebrates destruction, God prepares resurrection and restoration for His people. The Lord is calling believers to rise in faith and reclaim what belongs to them. Destiny shall not remain in captivity when God arises in power. PRAYER DECLARATION: Father, restore every blessing stolen from my life. I recover every opportunity lost through satanic manipulation. Every destiny thief assigned against me, be exposed and scattered. O Lord, restore my strength, peace, and spiritual virtue. Every season of delay and stagnation, end now in Jesus’ name. I reclaim every good thing assigned to my destiny. Let divine restoration overflow in every area of my life. PRAYER FOCUS: Father, thank You because You are the God of restoration. Restore everything the enemy attempted to steal from my life. Let my destiny arise from every place of captivity into divine fulfillment. In Jesus’ name, Amen. PROPHETIC DECLARATION: I declare restoration over my destiny. What was stolen shall return multiplied. I shall recover all and walk in divine advancement in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Season 155

Thoughts Produce Desire – Action – Fruit (Life Or Death)

Thoughts Produce Desire – Action – Fruit (Life Or Death) So I find it to be a law (rule of action of my being) that when I want to do what is right and good, evil is ever present with me and I am subject to its insistent demands. For I endorse and delight in the Law of God in my inmost self [with my new nature]. Romans 7:21-22 (AMPC) The Apostle Paul is writing about the inner struggle we all face in life – the struggle of having a desire to do things we don’t want to do yet finding it hard to do the things we know are right. A constant battle rages between the flesh and the spirit. Our born again spirit desires to commune with God, to pray, praise and worship, but our desires and appetites are constantly bombarded by images on TV, movies, and social media. We have information coming at us from every side and we literally must fight to get quiet times. The spirit man in us has to be fed spiritual food which comes through worship, prayer, praise and reading our Bibles or other Christian materials in our quiet times. However, the enemy of our souls knows that he cannot touch our spirit because the Holy Spirit lives there, instead, he tries to appeal to our natural senses. He draws us by making things look, sound, feel, taste, and smell nice so we can be drawn away from the reality of what is important, and that is our relationship with God. Often we don’t recognize that the battle is won or lost in our thought life. Long before we commit an act, we would have pondered the whole scene in our minds first. The Apostle James also chimes in on desire, action, and fruit, He said, “But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions). Then the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death.” James 1:14-15 (AMPC). So you see from this scripture that what we feed grows in our lives. If we feed the spirit with the word, praise, worship, and prayer we can develop thoughts, desires, actions and fruit for the kingdom. However, if we feed the flesh with movies, music, images, books and even friends contrary to the word of God we are setting ourselves up for sin and eventually death both spiritually and physically. Your thought life is powerful and precious and whatever you allow to dominate and stay in your mind will also bring forth actions, and fruit be it life or death. I want to encourage you to take time every day to feed your spirit in God’s word. “What consumes your mind is what controls your life.” -
Season 153

BREAKING EVIL COVENANTS AND ALTARS

BREAKING EVIL COVENANTS AND ALTARS VERSES: Colossians 2:14 — “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances…” Isaiah 10:27 — “The yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” Psalm 11:3 — “If the foundations are destroyed…” Many spiritual battles are connected to evil foundations, covenants, and altars established against destinies. Through the blood of Jesus, every evil handwriting and accusation against believers has been cancelled. The cross broke every chain of darkness. No altar is greater than the altar of Calvary. The blood of Jesus speaks mercy, victory, and freedom over every child of God. Every inherited bondage, satanic agreement, and ancestral limitation loses power in the presence of God. The Lord desires His people to walk in freedom and dominion. When believers pray with authority, evil foundations are shaken, and divine restoration begins to manifest. PRAYER DECLARATION Every evil covenant speaking against my destiny, break in Jesus’ name. I destroy every satanic altar raised against my life. Let the blood of Jesus wipe away every evil handwriting against me. Every inherited bondage, lose your hold upon my life. O God, uproot every evil plantation affecting my destiny. Every ancestral limitation assigned against my progress, scatter by fire. I declare total freedom through the blood of Jesus. PRAYER FOCUS Lord Jesus, let Your blood speak deliverance and restoration over my life. Break every chain and destroy every evil altar resisting my destiny. Establish me in freedom, victory, and spiritual authority. In Jesus Name, Amen. PROPHETIC DECLARATION I declare that every evil covenant is broken. Every satanic altar is destroyed. I walk in liberty, victory, and dominion through the blood of Jesus Christ, Amen
Season 151

A Renewed Mind Aligns You With The Will Of God

A Renewed Mind Aligns You With The Will Of God And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 (NKJV) I hear the statement all the time, “I don’t know the will of God for my life,” and I have said that often also. However, I recognize that the more you grow in your walk with the Lord the more His will is crystallized to you. One point I want to pound into your mind is “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” So, if you are meditating on the promises of God, reading godly materials, and filling your mind with praise and worship these tools are literally helping to shape and change your thought patterns from negativity to a more positive outlook on life. According to Strong’s Concordance the Greek word renew is - (Strong’s 342 - anakainósis - (from 303/aná, "up, completing a process," which intensifies kainō, "make fresh, new"; see 2537 /kainós) – properly, a new development; a renewal, achieved by God's power.” When we meditate on God’s words and promises it has the power to literally change the way we think. The truth about this life is if you are not meditating on God’s word as your source for building your life then your mind is filled with something else and whatever you think the most about will dictate the outcome for your life. When we conform to the world system of doing things, we will reap the products of that life. For example, the world tells us we must love those who love us and hate those who hate us. If we adapt to this pattern, then our lives would be filled with hatred, anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, and lack of joy. However, as we renew our minds with the word of God that says, “Bless those that persecute you and spitefully use you because yours will be the kingdom of God.” This creates a new thinking pattern that releases us from a burden of hate to peace, and that helps us to stay connected to God, and suddenly, you realize that God’s will for you is not to be angry all the time, God’s will for you is to be at peace, God’s will is for you to inherit His . As we think, we change the physical nature of our brain. As we consciously direct our thinking, we can wire out toxic patterns of thinking and replace them with healthy thoughts.” Renewing our minds daily with the word of God is imperative if we want to become healthy and bring change to the world. “If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.”
Season 149

I Surrender my Bitterness

I Surrender my Bitterness There’s not much we can do about our past, but we can choose to grow beyond what happened back then. To surrender the past is to make peace with it, to trust in God’s sovereign ability to make something good out of pain. Our story is not erased, but remembered, then surrendered. No one sets out to be bitter. When we list desired character traits, we don’t write “bitterness” on our list. But the insidiousness of trauma, pain, and hurt push against our hearts, and when we spend more time ruminating over the offense rather than continually surrendering it to God, we run into the very real possibility that we’re edging toward a bitter heart. But first, we must explore our grief and provide space to lament. Bitterness comes from not addressing a moral injury (typically). We must walk backwards from our bitter thoughts and keep asking questions. ·Why do I feel this way? ·What happened to hurt me? ·Who am I embittered against? ·Have I grieved? ·What am I afraid to address? We live in a broken, sin-scarred world, and we have a soul enemy who delights in trying to destroy us. No wonder we’re walking wounded or bitterness threatens! Sometimes we don’t know why we’re hurting until we write it out, stark on the pages of a journal. For me, that certainly helps, but what furthers my healing is processing it aloud with a loved one. It’s then I understand the nature of my pain. To have someone there absorbing it and reflecting back is enlightening. Plus we receive prayer and feedback. Bitterness need not be an inevitability of your life. To surrender it means you open your heart for lament, then healing, to codify what hurt you. It is right to share your pain with the One who made you, rather than ignoring your very real pain in hopes that it will go away. Sadly, punched down pain grows unhindered, but processed pain has a chance to heal. The opposite of a bitter heart is a tender one. Hosea 10:12 reminds us, “Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you” (NLT). Hearts can grow hard, but we can seek God and plow hard soil so that it becomes a seedbed of hope. Prayer: Jesus, I surrender my bitterness to you. I don’t want to live hard hearted anymore. I want to soften. An embittered life only breeds contempt and isolation, so set me free from my pain, my demand to be heard, and my desperation for vindication. Break up the hard soil of my heart, so you can grow something beautiful. Amen.
Season 148

Walking in Dominion Over the Works

POWER AGAINST DESTINY KILLERS Walking in Dominion Over the Works of Darkness VERSES: “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery… which God ordained before the world unto our glory.” — 1 Corinthians 2:7–8 DAY 1: PRESERVED FOR DIVINE PURPOSE VERSES: Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you…” Isaiah 54:17 — “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” Psalm 138:8 — “The Lord will perfect that which concerns me.” God created every believer with divine purpose and eternal significance. Before you were born, heaven already ordained your destiny. Satan fights destiny because he fears what God has placed within you. Just as Herod sought to destroy Jesus in infancy, the enemy still seeks to attack purpose before it manifests. But the Lord is a Preserver of destiny. Every satanic attack against your calling shall fail because God’s hand is stronger than every power of darkness. What the enemy meant for destruction, God will turn into testimony and victory. You are not created to fail, wander, or be wasted. Heaven has invested greatness within you. Every prayer you pray in faith releases divine authority against the works of darkness assigned against your future. PRAYER DECLARATIONS Father, preserve my destiny from every satanic attack. Every power assigned to abort my purpose, scatter in Jesus’ name. I cancel every evil prophecy spoken against my life. O Lord, arise and defend my calling and assignment. Every spirit of delay and frustration, release me now. I recover every opportunity stolen from my destiny. My life shall fulfil God’s divine purpose in Jesus’ name. PRAYER FOCUS Father, thank You because my destiny is hidden in Christ. Let every attack against my future be destroyed by Your power. Preserve me for Your glory and establish every purpose You ordained for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen. PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS I declare that my destiny shall not be destroyed. Every weapon fashioned against my purpose shall fail. I shall rise, fulfill my calling, and walk in divine victory in Jesus’ name, Amen
Season 146

Embracing God's Template of Purpose

Embracing God's Template of Purpose God has a purpose for your life that is uniquely crafted for you. His plan is not random or disconnected but is intentional and filled with hope. In Jeremiah 29:11, God promises that His thoughts toward us are full of peace and a future filled with hope. When we understand that our lives fit into God's divine blueprint, we can find peace even in the midst of uncertainty. God’s plan for us is more than just a sequence of events or actions. It's a carefully designed purpose meant to shape us into the people He created us to be. There will be moments of confusion, challenges, and waiting, but each moment is part of God’s plan. His plan for your life is not only about destination but about who you become along the way. For instance, consider the life of Joseph in the Bible. His journey was long and filled with suffering, but God used his circumstances to position him for a greater purpose, saving nations from famine. Joseph didn’t know it at the time, but every challenge served to develop the qualities he would need for his role. Application: Reflect on your life and the journey you’ve been on. Are there moments where you can now see God's hand at work in ways you didn’t understand at the time? If you’re currently facing uncertainty or struggle, hold on to the truth that God is still at work. Trust that He has a divine plan for you, even if you can’t see the full picture right now. Prayer: " Lord, thank You for Your purpose in my life. Even when I don’t see the whole plan, help me to trust that You are working everything for my good. Give me patience and faith to follow Your leading. I trust in Your perfect timing. In Jesus Christ's name, Amen."
Season 144

Ruth✨Victor, Not Victim

Ruth: Victor, Not Victim It was my sophomore year in college. I was going through a stressful time with financial aid and worried about whether I would be able to complete the semester. My best friend at the time (whose name ironically happened to be Faith) and I were hanging out in my dorm room, and I started to lament. Before I could get too comfortable, she got up and said, "If you're going to just mope around, I'm leaving." My jaw dropped as I went from offended to irritated to downright angry. How insensitive! She left, and I dismissed her as not understanding the pressure I was feeling. Sometime later, of course, I realized she was right. I was a child of God. I had overcome similar struggles my freshman year, and she, better than most, had seen the faithfulness of God in both our young lives. No matter how desperately I wanted my pity party, she would not stand for it. Looking back on that encounter, I am grateful. As we wrap up our study of Ruth, there is one final lesson to learn: restoration is not a spectator sport, it requires participation. When you and I are going through a difficult season, it is human to get weary, but we must understand that the enemy specializes in exacerbating our weariness. If he can amplify our exhaustion and turn it into paralysis, we are rendered useless. Thankfully, God has an antidote. When God begins the work of restoration in our lives, He often calls us to do something, starting with obedience. Rarely do we get the entire picture of what our journey will look like; He typically reveals our course one step at a time. For Ruth, her participation began when she chose to stay by Naomi’s side and glean from her wisdom. In Ruth 3, Naomi gives her specific instructions, which, when followed, led to specific results. Subsequently, Ruth won the favor of Boaz and became one of only five women in the Bible mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus. Although her story ends well, it started with pain that could not be downplayed or dismissed. What is most admirable is that she chose not to wallow in that pain, just as my friend Faith urged me. I encourage you to do the same. One of the best ways to stop the enemy in his tracks is to intentionally reject the victimhood posture by choosing obedience in your rightful position as a victor. By doing so, you actively participate in your restoration story as God reveals each step. Tomorrow, we will start to look at Job, another person who reminds us that our reality might say that there is no hope, but spiritually, God is always at work. Prayer: Father, I am not a victim. Your word is clear that you are with me every step of the way. Help me to understand that, not just in my mind, but in my heart. I pray that my experiences would attest to the truth of that Word. I pray for the grace to obey you every step of the way. Thank you for the victory that I have in you.
Season 142

You Become What You Think

You Become What You Think For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7 (NIV) As we learned yesterday anyone who comes into a relationship with Jesus receives a new heart and must guard it. However, the mind of man must now be renewed daily with the word of God. Isn’t it amazing that our thought life is connected to our heart? God has and always will be concerned about our heart condition. God sees past the layers of our external expressions and facades and He goes straight to the heart. The writer of Proverbs points us to a profound truth about the principle of thought and the product of our lives. Let us take time and ponder this statement, “As a man thinks in his heart so is he.” From this, we can reason that the situations and circumstances in our lives could be because of our thinking patterns. I know this is a hard pill to swallow because many of us have had bad stuff happen to us, perhaps you have had bad breaks in life like growing up without a dad, or someone abused you when you were young, maybe you have had a failed marriage or business. There could be a wide range of scenarios you have been through but never the less they happened, and these situations have caused your thoughts to be on the negative side of the scale. The enemy knows that we have been made new in Christ, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to keep us down in the dumps. The enemy only has as much power as we allow him to have and we give him that power when we believe his lies; he is called the father of lies, and his lies come in the form of thoughts. He can no longer go before the Father to accuse you of your sins because Jesus took care of your sins once and for all when He shed his blood at Calvary. However, the enemy is hoping that you will never believe that your sins are taken care of so now he comes, and whispers lies to you in thoughts based on your past hurts and disappointments or your past sins. Hence the reason the Apostle Paul reminds us to renew our minds. We must come to a place in our walk with God where we take responsibility for our thoughts. We live in a world prone to passing the blame, and the victim mentality is rampant. In my own life for many years I found it easier to blame my unfortunate circumstances on other people because it made me feel better about my bad attitude and negativity. Growing up in a single parent home was difficult, and while there were unfortunate results in my life I let the victim mentality dictate a negative pattern. I was very comfortable to live like that because I felt I had the right to be the way I was because someone wronged me or took advantage of me. Over the years God has opened my eyes to the fact that though I was a victim of neglect, rejection, and abuse I did not have to embrace that as my identity instead I could be changed if I allowed my mind to be renewed. Today I want to encourage you to let go of the victim mentality and identity and let God help you dump those negative thoughts about the past. Ask Him to lead you to His words that will renew your mind so you can change your life. “You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.” ―
