SYNOPSIS:
Investigative journalist Georgina "George" moves to NYC to work for a Buzzfeed-like media startup, only to discover on arrival that her job's been downsized due to a company merger. Knowing no one else in the city, except her childhood best friend Trish, George agrees to move in with Trish's city best friend: struggling actress Avery, who just broke up with her girlfriend and also desperately needs help with rent. They are instantly at odds as roommates – and they also soon begin competing for Trish's friendship - until the night Trish mysteriously vanishes.
Now these two reluctant roommates - one, a fish out of water, but good at spotting clues and solving puzzles; the other a street smart hustler who knows how to lie and pretend to be other people - are forced to team up and work together to figure out what happened to their friend. In the process, they begin to discover that Trish's disappearance is just the first of many secrets surrounding her life and, maybe, her fate.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:
The origin of this film is that I wanted to tell a story about two women who were enemies who became friends. But also, being a huge fan of mysteries and thriller films, I found that merging the initial idea with a "missing person" caper to be the perfect engine to force an "odd couple" to have to work together.
It's been a really thrilling thing to explore with such a mindbogglingly great cast, and we hope that we made a picture with characters and a relationship that audiences will fall in love with and root for, while still also being a suspenseful, twisty, fun "popcorn movie" of a ride.
