The FDA operates a mandatory safety program for all fish and fish products under the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C), the Public Health Services Act, and related regulations.
FDA's program includes research, inspection, compliance, enforcement, disclosure, and regulatory development and guidance.
Although FD&C is not new, FDA’s regulations and its compliance priorities change over time in response to domestic and international economic and political factors.
