Season 18

202. Genesis 30-31 - Schemer Super Bowl (Jacob vs. Laban)

Sam and Will discuss Genesis 29:31 through Genesis 31. The Lord shows great compassion to Leah as she learns to find her satisfaction in God alone. Then they discuss how the Lord helps Jacob to overthrow Laban's crooked attempts to exploit him. Jacob will leave Laban's homeland an outrageously wealthy man.

201. Genesis 28-29 - Beautiful Ladder and a Deceptive Bride

Sam and Will discuss Genesis chapters 28 and 29. First, Jacob has a stunning dream of a ladder reaching into the heavens. Our God is actively involved in the affairs of men. Then Jacob arrives at his destination where he falls in love. Sadly, Jacob gets a taste of his own medicine when he is deceived into a covenant with the wrong person.

200. Genesis 27 - Jacob Steals the Father's Blessing

In our 200th episode, Sam and Will discuss how Jacob listened to his mother's instructions to deceive his father Isaac in order to steal a blessing from his older brother. Esau. Incredibly, God chose to establish His covenant with this very dysfunctional family. Why? What does God intend for us to learn from this?

199. Genesis 26 - Isaac Is Blessed in the Famine

Pastor Sam and Will discuss Genesis 26 and the many similarities between the lives of Abraham and Isaac. In this episode, we find the "son of promise" receiving incredible wealth in the midst of famine due to his obedience to God's calling. Did Isaac use that wealth in the same way that Jesus would? Join us for the answer.

198. Genesis 25 - Jacob the Deceiver

Sam and Will discuss the death of Abraham and his incredible legacy brought forth by his eight sons. They also discuss how Jacob and Esau challenge our expectations about God's blessing. The lives of Jacob and Esau show that His favor does NOT follow the most virtuous among us, but those who cling to His promises.

Season 17

197. Genesis 23-24 - A Bride for Isaac

Sam and Will discuss the role of Abraham's faith in choosing a burial plot for his wife Sarah, and they discuss the mission of Abraham's servant to find a bride for Isaac, the son of promise. How does this point our minds to Jesus and the gospel? Listen and find out.

196. Genesis 22 - Sacrifice Your Only Son!

Sam and Will discuss God's disturbing command for Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac on Mount Moriah. Incredibly, the details of this story anticipate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God is training his people to hope in His power to raise the dead to life!

195. Genesis 21 - Isaac's Birth & Ishmael's Departure

Sam and Will talk about three events in the life of Abraham: (1) the long-awaited birth of Isaac, (2) his separation from Hagar & Ishmael, and (3) his treaty with Abimelech. After the birth of Isaac, both Sarah and God asked Abraham to part ways with his son Ishmael -- forcing him to trust God with the life of his son.

194. Genesis 19-20 - Dysfunctional Families of Lot & Abraham

Sam and Will discuss the conclusion of Lot's tragic story and the incestuous roots of his descendants -- the Moabites and the Ammonites. They also discuss Abraham's second (nearly identical) betrayal of Sarah and why the Lord chooses to honor him despite his repeated failures and stumbles. This is good news for us!

193. Genesis 18-19 - The Destruction of Sodom

Sam and Will discuss God's faithfulness to Sarah, and the Lord reveals to Abraham He is willing to spare the wicked for the sake of the righteous. We also discuss God's judgment upon Sodom and the new archaeological evidence affirming the biblical account of this city's astonishing destruction.
