In Matthew 1, Sam and Will walk through why the Gospel starts with Jesus’ genealogy, and why that “list of names” matters for real life. You will hear what it means that Jesus is called the Son of David and the Son of Abraham, and how those titles point to God’s promises and a kingdom that reaches all nations. They highlight how God works through messy, broken family stories, including outsiders and women named in the genealogy (like Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and the wife of Uriah). The episode also explains Matthew’s “14 generations” pattern (including a discussion of gematria) and how Matthew is emphasizing David. Then they move into the birth of Jesus, Joseph’s mercy, the virgin birth, and why Jesus came to save people from their sins. If you feel disqualified by your past, this is a reminder that God is not ashamed to bring grace into real, complicated lives. If this helped you understand Matthew 1, share it with a friend who is new to the Bible.
