Episode notes

Lieutenant Ben Guthrie is escorting Mr. Holmes into the lineup viewing area. Holmes asks "Can I sit here?" Ben says "Sure, any chair in the room, Mr. Holmes. He says "And you'll sit beside me? Ben says "Sure". Holmes says "I hope I didn't do wrong about that boy, Lieutenant, but I'm pretty sure there was a bullet hole in that coat". Ben says "You did just right. Like the other people here, you've all come to try to identify someone in the lineup, for one reason or another". Just then, an officer says "May I have your attention, please?" Ben says "That's Sergeant Grebb in charge of the lineup. He'll explain it to you". Grebb says "You people out there on the other side of the wire in the audience room, may I have your attention, please? Thank you. My name is Sergeant Matt Grebb. Each of the suspects you see will be numbered. I call off their number, name, and charge. If you have any questions or identifications, please remember the number assigned to the prisoner. If you are sure or not too sure of the suspect have him held for questioning. The officers who took your name will assist you, as they are seated among you. Please be prompt with your questions or identifications. When the prisoners leave here, they are sent to get dressed back into their jail clothes making it difficult to bring them back. The questions I ask the suspects are merely to get a natural tone of voice. Do not pay too much attention to their answers as they often lie. Bring on the line". Once the line is formed, Sergeant Grebb starts the questioning procedure. Holmes indicates to Ben that he identifies the number two suspect, Jimmy Hodge. Ben says "Sergeant Grebb, hold number two for interrogation".
