An Italian Nightmare in Misano | Bezzecchi Crashes, Marquez Takes the MotoGP Championship Lead
Episode notes
Marco Bezzecchi set the first ever sub-1:30 lap at Misano in qualifying to take pole by half a second. He got the holeshot on Sunday. He crashed at Turn 13 on lap 1, in front of his own grandstand, while leading at his home race.
Marc Marquez inherited the lead, lost it to Martin on lap 7, took it back on lap 12, and held off his own brother to win by 0.657 seconds. It was his 78th MotoGP victory and his fifth of the 2026 season. He now leads the championship for the first time all year. The gap between him and Martin is zero. Both sit on 274 points. Marquez leads because he has won more races.
Bezzecchi goes to Austria 33 points back. Eight rounds remain.
Alex Marquez finished second in a special Marco Simoncelli tribute livery at Gresini Racing's home race. Acosta was third. Martin had arm pump issues, faded to fifth, and still said he really enjoyed the race. In Moto2, a first-corner crash eliminated the entire front row. Gonzalez won from fifth on the grid. In Moto3, Quiles won by 0.021 seconds in a photo finish.
Dave has the numbers on how a championship that started the weekend 19 points apart is now perfectly level. Nicky has the Bezzecchi story.
