Philip reminds us that freedom is never absolute: we are freed from something for something—that is, life in the Spirit and the risen Son. For Christians, our existence is now defined by the cross, the Spirit and freedom. But the world, the flesh and slavery threaten to pull us back again. Do we really believe that Jesus has defeated death?
