Job Ep. 4: An Early Priest?

Job — Episode 4: An Early Priest? In this episode of the Maple Grove Scripture Reading Podcast, we continue our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Job by finishing our close look at Job 1:1–5. We focus on Job’s regular practice of offering sacrifices on behalf of his children and explore what this tells us about his character, his understanding of God, and his role within his family. Along the way, we look at ancient feasting practices, the meaning of purification and consecration, and the significance of burnt offerings in the Old Testament. This episode also raises an important question: in what sense is Job acting like a priest for his household, and what does that reveal about faith, responsibility, and intercession before the time of Israel’s formal priesthood? We close by reflecting on how these opening verses give us a surprisingly full portrait of Job—and prepare us for the dramatic shift that comes next in the story. Scripture: Job 1:1–5 (NIV) Thanks for listening! Job Ep. 3 – Blameless and Upright

Job — Episode 3: Blameless and Upright In this episode, we continue our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Job, focusing on Job 1:1–5 and the way Job is introduced at the very beginning of the book. We explore what it means for Job to be described as blameless and upright, why those words don’t mean sinless perfection, and how Job’s fear of God shapes his life, character, and decisions. We also look at Job’s family, wealth, and reputation, and why those details matter for understanding the story that follows. This episode helps set the theological and moral foundation of Job by showing that the book begins not with suffering, but with faithfulness. Scripture: Job 1:1–5 (NIV)
