Episode notes

Do you ever feel like you need to get your life back?

Get back into a routine. Get back to taking care of yourself. Get back to creating. Get back to the things you used to enjoy. Get back to feeling like yourself again.

We tell ourselves we’ll return when work calms down, money gets better, life feels less overwhelming, or we finally have more time.

But what happens when “temporary” becomes your life?

In this episode of Metanoia Madness, Nicholas explores what it means to feel disconnected from yourself, miss an old version of your life, and keep waiting for the right time to get back on track.

Because maybe you don’t actually need your old life back.

Sometimes what we miss about the past isn’t the life itself. We miss how creative we were. How disciplined we felt. How deeply we could disappear into something we loved. We miss the people, routines, freedom, or sense of possibility associated with who we were then.

Nostalgia can tell us something important about what we’re missing without necessarily telling us where we should go next.

And sometimes the harder truth is that the thing we keep promising to return to isn’t something we want anymore.

People change. Dreams change. Priorities change.

Something can have been deeply important to you without needing to remain part of your future.

Maybe getting your life back on track isn’t about recreating who you used to be.

Maybe it’s about understanding what you miss, deciding what still belongs to you, letting go of what doesn’t, and building from where you actually are.

You’re not going backward.

You’re here.

And maybe instead of waiting to feel like your old self again, you can start building a life that feels like the person you are now.

JOURNAL PROMPT

Think about something you’ve been telling yourself you’ll eventually “get back to.”

What do you actually miss about that part of your life?

Does it need to return in the same form for you to experience it again?

And then ask the harder question:

Do I still want this, or have I just never given myself permission to stop wanting it?

AFFIRMATIONS

I can miss an old version of my life without needing to recreate it.

I am allowed to carry forward what still belongs to me.

Changing what I want does not erase what once mattered.

I can build from where I am instead of waiting to get back to where I was.
