Between time off and/or altering career trajectories to raise families, women often amass less money, and then don't fight for their share of the retirement savings in divorce, often preferring to get the house, which often leaves them struggling with cash flow and having to leave the house later in life. Finding and getting an appropriate percentage of a couple's retirement savings changes the math and puts both partners on a more even lifetime financial path.
