Jesus, the Prince of Peace who is entering into His city and His Temple, makes clear with His actions, “this is My house,” as He causes disruption and causes chaos with His righteous anger. But His actions point to a much larger “destruction” and “cleansing.” John’s Gospel tell us that Jesus makes a direct correlation between this cleansing and the future destruction not of the manmade Temple, but of His body, and that this “destruction” will lead to a permanent cleansing of the Temple, which is the Body of Christ. The desire of God is to have a Temple where people from all nations can come to worship, and ultimately, become living stones of the true and eternal Temple, which is the body of Christ Himself.
