We so often make our plans first and invite God into them afterwards, forgetting how brief and uncertain our lives really are. Drawing on Proverbs 16 and Paul's habit of saying "if the Lord wills", Ciaran reminds us that God wants us to make plans — He simply wants to be part of them.

The message also offers practical help for discerning God's will: testing it against Scripture, seeking wise counsel, looking for God's peace, and paying attention to the circumstances around us.

Following God's plan isn't always comfortable, and it may cost us things we'd rather keep. But God never asks us to do anything He won't equip us for, and He always makes His plans with us in mind.
