The Big Blue Betty Part 2
Vs 5 With giant quantum steps I’m overtaking the challenge of balance. My birthright as youngest: in observing, I’ve learned. Arms over my head, like a monkey, I manage to steer. Using whole body torque, I churn with everything I am. I’m riding my grown sister’s blue bike on my own. I’m riding my grown sister’s blue bike on my own. I’m riding my grown sister’s blue bike on my own. Ch (music) Vs 6 Training wheels not needed, Betty balances herself alright. My course included: mostly sidewalks, a bit of road. And I’m a lost Wright brother at Kitty Hawk with a single concern: Not to do with WHERE I’m going; but with keeping myself upright And psyching myself against an overwhelming allure to fall over. Ch The Big Blue Betty knew I was ready. Her lower c. of g. made her ride steady. Fat inflated tires (just above flat) She rolled on…like a dream come true! She taught me early. She taught me for life. How to maneuver over cracks and upheavals Disappointments and strife. Always knew what to do And she rolled on…like a dream come true! She rolled on…like a dream come true! Vs: The drag coefficient would slow us down, or worse... Jerk us back and up—bending our course towards kingdom come. All the while, dancing and dropping, as we went, A potpourri of odds and ends: A potpourri of odds and ends: A potpourri of odds and ends: Vs: Baskets full of red and blinking bulbous noses, Huge shoes, seltzer bottles (flailing and spraying) Freshly twisted into life-sized balloon animals... And right along with this profusion of clown falderal... Getting pulled into the tornadic stew and strewn... And right along with this profusion of clown falderal... Getting pulled into the tornadic stew and strewn... Vs: Our very own lifetime’s worth of personal effects And treasures like so many yesterdays, Spreading far and wide producing eddies in our wake Getting obscured by distance Then more and more cloud-shape mistaken As we amble on, ever on Toward Dorothy’s rainbow bridge to heaven... But we’d be well-advised, on our part, To pat ‘em down; finger through their index of pranks & antics; Because one of those clowns might well be packing A vertically broad-striped big top Held out there in the broad daylight Jumbled in amongst his prop-filled frolicking Jumbled in amongst his prop-filled frolicking C: And with lightning hands would flip out same, Unpack it, tie it off and let it out through The E-door of our Bozo transport... Converting instantly, it would no doubt, To a para-sail or parasol…a rather large balloon bag, by any account Which, then would surely catch some wind. Which, then would surely catch some wind. Which, then would surely catch some wind. Vs: The drag coefficient would slow us down, or worse... Jerk us back and up—bending our course… Aiming us up and on a bead towards kingdom come. Ch #2 Get cares out from under foot; It’s time to unload. We’ll roll it all out ‘long side the road As we roll along the side roads. Rolling and blipping on the seams As seeming endlessly rolling out as we roll. Vs When we stop to rest we might encounter some clowns. Who’re guised in lit-red noses, too big shoeses Spinning boutonnieres—sporting pails full Of shredded paper waters. Still Remembering
1 There’s a long-ago story we revisit every year. That presents a still-life image inside our brains. An image of a world that operated in ways less complicated. Our imaginations repaint us into a Currier and Ives scene. Bliss-filled feelings get reincarnated in our hearts. At that time when One newly born into a stable— Into the world on a night when the Light came out. 2 It’s a clear star-filled night with snow blanketing rolling hills That lays out a soft bed and brings with it an almost grab-able still. Angels flitting, near and plentiful, create a feeling some might really appear. While silver chimes. Brass trumpets o’er the crisp air sound. To ring a bell, trip the re—mind back to a time When One newly born into a stable— Into the world on a night when the Light came out. Ch The years pass by, by the 1000s, still remembering. When a world—wrung with yearning—woke up to a [whole] new view… And the baby enrapt in a swaddling glow, And the sheep and the shepherds (add in a sprinkle of cattle lowing)… Kings, celestial beings, every whit now bowing low— All that time ago when the Light came out at night! 3 As youngest of 5, I got picked on & teased growing up but During that recurring time of year, love acted like a blanket 6 layers deep and multi-faceted. With my sisters tickling & chiding me, were at the same time taking good care of me. My brothers were busy bothering me and pointing out to me my dumber side. It seems I was well-placed at the end of my family line. The years pass by, I still remember it: that night when the Light came out. 4 A nuclear brand of love extended down my mom’s side. Yielding a full spread of uncles and aunts… Who’d intuitively pull together and up the slack. To fill in the cracks around any and all necessity gaps. For the blessing of us—the countless number of downline brats. From my view: a full crew in every way imaginable. It all snaps me back to the night when the Light came out. 5 Our Christmas times, as I recall them now, were—every year— Crowded out by my mother’s broad shoulders, By my lavish continuum of family members plus By shepherds, kings, celestial beings, a standing-room-only radiance of angels All cramming in around our tree, in around our table, All on account of the One newly born into a stable— Into the world on a night when the Light came out. The High Winds Adventurer
The High Winds Adventurer With Signals to a Weather-vane 1 Singer from the high cliffs at the ends of the earth, Sender of whirling tales Bend them to issue out a far cry; Make them slap upon and off The sweat-faced rocks; Only to follow brooks, chase the geese flocks. Then to eventuate: somewhere swallowed up By hungry depths of crevice. 2 My fellow wandering searchers, Gleaners of lost and fallen squalls: “Look hard and you might tell The cloud bank from the mighty jutting snow caps. (Everything has been regulated in scale On your topographical guide maps.)” 3 Singer from the high cliffs at the ends of the earth Send compressed melodies in transit. Sandwiched in-between cumulonimbus lifts, They will lumber on, blown along… Till wet sheets of torrents Pour down as if a manuscript Is getting penned against the sky; And inter-smacking canons are laying waste to the hush. 4 Singer from the tall cliffs in the halls of the earth Gather harmony from diversity... And from the four corners of the globe. Blend them. Feed them (in total) Into the flow of Your robe. Seed them within flood rains of spring. Bale them and offer them up to talons of the storm. Sail them beneath wings tuned for traveling immense distance So as to disperse, and all, hither and yon. So far and wide might come to abide Inside the soul…and so too, the lonely traveler might know. The Big Blue Betty Part 1
Vs 1 One day I just saw her lying on the ground. I’d fixated on my sisters’ mastery of her workings: Axles, crank, gears, big wheels…messaged and fashioned For the solitary purpose (by some unknown genius), Of manufacturing propulsion for forward motion. Vs 2 Only 4 years old yet hyped on bennies of “can do” thinking… Osmosis off upper ranks of Rockwood family roles Then magnified by my drive to be a bigger boy. Some voice in my chest spoke out to my head: “Lay it all on the line...give her a try!” Ch The Big Blue Betty knew I was ready Her lower c. of g. made her ride steady. Fat inflated tires (to just above flat). She rolled on…like a dream come true! She taught me early. She taught me for life How to maneuver over cracks and upheavals Disappointments and strife. Always knew what to do And she rolled on…just like a dream come true! Always knew what to do And she rolled on…just like a dream come true! Just like a dream come true! Vs 3 She was a heavy lift, getting her straight up and down; Like my sisters, I straddle her frame, left foot on her lower treadle Bounce up to the other, like walking up steps, While, at the same time, grabbing on to her bars. Immediately she begins to roll (being pre-destined to the goal). Vs 4 At the captain’s post: standing up to my task One giant stride after another: like stilt man at the circus. We’re rolling, it seems she’s a mind of her own. A bit surprised, at first, I quickly plot my course. A 5-senses experience with neurons alighting all at once. Vs 1 Reprise Axles, crank, gears, big wheels…messaged and fashioned For the solitary purpose (by some unknown genius), Of manufacturing propulsion for forward motion. World Go Round
Vs In the beginning, she started spinning, Seemingly speeding off all on her own. Oh yes. An unending going was put in her motion That sprung from a God of abundant knowing. Vs Then God He made the man, Woman, from then on the clan. Next quest: to gain control Over wild wonder of this world spinning. Ch Pale horseman comes to town The final curtain inching down Sin of all men abound Still will the world go round? Ghosts of a sorry past Rear ugly heads at last. Waves of fate crash, resound. Still, and all: world go round! Vs She keeps on spinning and new life springs—goes on living. Many wander off on their own, Yeah! Is it their mission: what sort of mischief Can be inflicted on this globe spinning? Vs Then God He gave to man The freedom to shape the land He planted a seed in him: To bleed and heal and go on spinning! Ch Pale horseman comes to town. The final curtain inching down. Sin of all men abound. Still will the world go round? Ghosts of a sorry past Rear ugly heads at last. Waves of fate crash, resound. Still, and all: world go round! Waves of fate crash, resound.
