Once a homeless 13-year-old, Marnie transformed her life to become an author, activist, founder of the non- profit organisation Love Marnie and sought after speaker. Marnie began running away from home at the age of 5 after her mother dropped her out of a two-story window, breaking both of her arms. The abuse did not begin or end there; from her earliest memories her childhood was riddled with sexual, physical and emotional abuse. Desperate to survive and escape, Marnie became what is known as a habitual (aka chronic) runaway. At the age of 13, Marnie disappeared and began living as a homeless youth. Her early experiences living on the streets forced her to become quite industrious. By the age of 14, Marnie secured a job as a cocktail waitress and rented her first apartment. Being so young, and struggling to maintain a roof over her head while navigating the predators determined to exploit vulnerable kids, it was Marnie’s mindset that allowed her to grow up quickly and become an expert at 'Surthrival.' Marnie was always firm in the knowledge that a better life lay ahead. Not one to wait for better things to come, Marnie used the adaptive resilience skills she learned on the streets to reach out and grab that better life. She now uses her experiences as a young girl experiencing homelessness to inspire, ignite and educate through survivor workshops. Shawn McMillan is 56 years old and a native of San Diego, California. He holds an undergraduate degree (BA) from the University of California, San Diego in Chinese Studies with a concentration in Pacific trade. Shawn was admitted to practice law in California in November 2000. Until 2009, he maintained an active trial practice concentrating on business dispute litigation, shareholder dispute litigation, and Chapter 11 restructuring. In 2009, Shawn developed and interest in protecting the civil rights of children and parents who become involved with government child protection agencies. Shawn has received recognition by the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association as a "Top Gun" trial attorney in the area of Civil Rights for his work in the land mark parental rights case: Deanna Fogarty-Hardwick v. Orange County Social Services, et al. He also received the Consumer Attorney's of California "Street Fighter of The Year" award for the same case. In 2014 Shawn was nominated again for the Consumer Attorney's of California "Street Fighter of The Year" award for his successful work in Arce v. County of Los Angeles et al., which led to a published decision changing the law regarding unwarranted seizures of children and how immunity is applied to private medical doctors who work together with child protection workers. The case also led to California's adoption of Civil Jury Instruction #3051 in 2018, Consumer Attorneys of San Diego awarded Shawn the "Outstanding Trial Attorney" for his work in Duval v. County of Los Angeles et al. which resulted in a $6 million judgment in favor of a mother who's 15 month old baby was seized without a warrant or exigent circumstances. During the Covid lock downs, while all the courts were shut down, Shawn spent his spare time taking, and passing, the Washington and Arizona bar exams. He is now also admitted to practice in the State of Washington and will soon be admitted to practice in Arizona. Author, speaker and former Sheriff Richard Mack has served in a wide variety of roles over the course of his nearly twenty year career in law enforcement, which began in Provo, Utah. After 11 years at Provo PD, Mack decided to return to his childhood turf in Arizona and run for Graham County Sheriff. His campaign took off and he was elected in 1988. During his tenure, federal officers informed the sheriffs of the state that they would be required to enforce the so-called “Brady Bill” and run background checks at their expense under the law. In 1994, Mack and six other sheriffs from across the country, challenged the constitutionality of the Brady Bill and ultimately, fought it all the way to the United States Supreme Court, where they won a monumental decision for freedom. Three years later, in a landmark 5-4 split decision based on the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, Mack won his case. He has also been named Elected Official of the Year by the Arizona-New Mexico Coalition of Counties in 1994, received the NRA Law Officer of the Year, inducted into the NRA Hall of Fame, 1995 Cicero Award, Samuel Adams Leadership Award from the Local Sovereignty Coalition, and Gun Owners of America Defender of the Second Amendment Award. He was sheriff for two terms until 1997. Sheriff Mack currently teaches, consults and empowers people around the country and around the world. He started the Constitutional Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) which educates both citizens as well as sheriffs and other peace officers on the Constitution and their limitations of power, according to the Constitution.
