Even though Ravel was an established composer when he applied for the competition, he was still obsessed with winning the prize. This will be a two-part episode with the first discussing how the Prix de Rome was judged, and the second discussing the many controversies surrounding Ravel's entry into the competition.

Part two deals with alternatives composers can take in getting their music performed. Alex Shapiro is a composer of acoustic and electronic music.
