Sensitivity and Empathy
empathic
Pain empathy is the ability to sense and understand another person's physical or emotional discomfort. When you watch someone get hurt, your brain's emotional pain centers light up, meaning high sensitivity can literally make you feel a physical echo of their suffering.
How the Brain Processes Empathic Pain
- Shared Circuits: Seeing someone in pain activates your own neural pain networks, specifically the mid-insula and anterior cingulate cortex.
- Not Full Pain: You feel an affective, emotional alarm response rather than the exact physical injury on your own body. ...
