Beverly Cleary's Ramona the Pest and How to Use it the Classrooms of 2021

Cultivating & Integrating Literacy Across the Curriculum by Howard Slepkov

Episode notes

Ramona the Pest is the second in a series of books written by Beverly Cleary. The series as a whole could be considered dated because this book was written in 1968. BUT, there is much that a teacher can do to help her students learn about the past and have fun at the same time. Ramona is beginning Kindergarten and her older sister Beezus is already in Grade 3, Listen to the trials and tribulations of a little girl starting school and trying to be just like her big sister. Ramona is a very active child, to be sure, but the book represents a moment in time that would enable us to talk with our students about how different life and school is today from 40 years ago.
