Hear Us Out by Eric Sandler and Michelle Schechter

Episode notes

On this episode we will be speaking with mother and hearing loss advocate Maureen Evans. Maureen’s daughter Abby had progressive hearing loss and was profoundly deaf by the age of three. Today, Abby is four years old, has bilateral cochlear implants and attends a deaf/hard of hearing program at school. We will hear from Maureen about how motherly instincts told something was not right with Abby’s hearing, the grieving process of accepting that her daughter will never hear acoustically again once she gets cochlear implants, and how with the support of family and her school, Abby has learned to thrive with her new normal of hearing through use of her cochlear implants as well as communicating through ASL.
