Watch Your Words! Your language can shape your life

Watch Your Words! Your Language Can Shape Your Life | Ep. 49 — Glucose, Grit & Grace "I'm getting sick." How many times have you said something like that without thinking? What if instead you said, "My body is fighting something off"? Same scratchy throat — two completely different mindsets. In this episode, the coaches dive deep into how the words we speak shape our identity, our health, and our possibilities. From "I always" to "I never" to "I can't," these seemingly harmless phrases might be quietly building the walls of the box you live in. The good news? You have the power to tear them down. ⏱️ Timestamps: 0:00 — "I'm getting sick" vs. "My body is fighting something off" 1:24 — the power of your words over your body, life & perspective 2:18 — Repetition becomes programming: when opinions start sounding like truth 2:50 — How health labels become identity ("I have autoimmune disease, so I can't...") 3:20 — Coach Elaine: the danger of "just" and "only" 4:38 — Coach Amber: self-awareness is the first step to catching your words 5:07 — "I'm not a morning person" — how labels give us permission to underperform 5:55 — Describing vs. defining: a diagnosis can explain without defining who you are 7:58 — Coach Amber on ADHD: is it an explanation or an excuse? 11:38 — Coach Elaine on "I'm just old" — and the woman who opened a business in her 60s 13:04 — Accepting a fact vs. identifying with it: fixed vs. growth mindset 14:28 — Passive language vs. active agency language ("I'm catching a cold" vs. "My body is fighting something") 20:19 — Wait... this is a mindset episode too 25:31 — Phrases that hand away your agency ("I'm not a reflective person," "My hormones make it impossible") 26:31 — "I fell off the wagon" — you didn't unlearn everything. Here's the reframe. 28:00 — Overarching negative statements: "My memory is terrible," "My knees are shot" 31:07 — Empowerment: becoming the pilot of your own plane 31:34 — Coach Elaine's breakthrough: "I don't like to cook" → "I don't like the cleanup!" 32:59 — Coach Amber: "I'll never lose weight because I have no willpower" — it's biology, not willpower 33:46 — It's not about positivity. It's about possibility. 34:40 — The power of "AND" — accept the reality, then move the story forward 36:22 — Shift "I could" to "I will" — commitment language 38:00 — Speaking life over yourself (without fake affirmations) 42:02 — The weekly challenge: Catch it. Question it. Reframe it. 45:57 — Closing: Grace acknowledges it's hard. Grit reminds you that you still have choices. 🔑 Key takeaway: Your words don't magically control your life — but they help you tell the story you're living. Change the sentence, change the story. 💬 What's one limiting phrase you've caught yourself saying? Wine O'clock & Blood Sugar: What's Really Happening in Your Body (Especially After 40)

All day long you think about that glass of wine at the end of the day that feels like a reward. The exhale. The "you time." And then you wake up at 3:00 AM wide awake, starving by 10:00 the next morning, and foggy all afternoon. Here's the plot twist most women never hear: it's usually not the drink that got you — it's the blood sugar crash that showed up hours later. In this episode of Glucose, Grit, and Grace: Health Coach Hotline, Coaches Amber, Alane and Elaine break down exactly what alcohol does to your blood sugar, your sleep, and your hormones — with zero judgment and zero lectures. Just the science behind what's actually happening in your body, and a practical playbook so you can make intentional choices instead of accidental ones. ⏱️ Timestamps 0:00 — The Wine O'clock Trap 1:59 — Alcohol & Blood Sugar 3:05 — Wine Culture: How Drinking Became a "Personality" 6:58 — Under the Hood: What Your Liver Does When You Drink 10:25 — The Hormone Connection: Glucagon & Insulin 12:45 — The Delayed Crash: 6 to 24 Hours Later 14:54 — The 3 AM Wake-Up Explained 15:32 — The Next-Day Hunger Spiral (It's Biology, Not Willpower) 18:42 — Alcohol & Menopause: Why Everything Feels Different Now 22:20 — The Practical Playbook: 5 Ways to Protect Your Blood Sugar 23:11 — Tip 1: Never Drink on an Empty Stomach 25:15 — Tip 2: Lead with Protein & Fat 25:49 — Tip 3: Watch What's in Your Drink 26:44 — Tip 4: Stay Hydrated 27:16 — Tip 5: The Pro Move — Bedtime Snack 29:05 — Grit: Your One Action This Week 30:41 — Grace: Stop Blaming Yourself 31:16 — A Gentle Note on Alcohol & Dependency 32:27 — Wrap Up & What's Next 🎯 Key Takeaways Alcohol makes your liver drop everything — including blood sugar regulation — to process it as a toxin The blood sugar crash from drinking can be delayed 6–24 hours, hitting in the middle of the night or the next morning That 3 AM wake-up and next-day carb cravings? That's biology, not a willpower problem Menopause makes everything worse: disrupted sleep, hot flashes, mood swings, and slower alcohol metabolism You don't have to quit drinking — you just need a strategy: eat first, lead with protein, hydrate, and buffer before bed 📌 Challenge for This Week Next time you have a drink, eat a PFC (protein, fat, carb) snack first — then notice how you sleep and how you feel the next morning. Blame or Tame: How to Stop Letting Obstacles Ruin Your Health Journey

Your schedule is crazy. Your hormones are out of whack. Your husband keeps bringing cookies home. All of that may be 100% true — but does it have to be in charge of your choices? In this episode, Coach Alane, Coach Amber, and Coach Elaine unpack one of the most powerful ideas from the 100 Days of 1% program: nutrition bosses don't blame, they tame. We dig into why our brains love to turn real obstacles into excuses, how to use the "five whys" to find what's actually getting in your way, and a simple 3-step framework to stop blaming and start taming — even when life is genuinely hard. Whether you're struggling with all-or-nothing thinking, weekend wipeouts, or the feeling that exercise just isn't in the cards right now, this episode gives you practical tools to take back your power without pretending the obstacles don't exist. ⏱️ Timestamps: 0:00 — The Obstacle Isn't Always the Problem 1:30 — Welcome to Glucose, Grit, and Grace 3:03 — Something Can Be True Without Being in Charge 4:57 — Taming Starts With Honesty 9:48 — Why We Turn Explanations Into Excuses 11:17 — The Five Whys Technique 12:13 — Elaine's Real Example: The Phone Game 13:13 — Ownership Is Not the Same as Control 16:10 — The Circles of Control Tool 16:57 — It's About Purpose, Not the Food 17:38 — Amber's Lobster Roll Story 20:37 — Step 1: Name It 21:55 — Overcoming Compulsive Eating 22:39 — Step 2: Find What You Can Control 24:05 — Lower the Bar — Perfect Is Boring 26:28 — Step 3: Build a System Around the Obstacle 27:08 — "No Guilt, Just Data" 29:21 — Listener Scenario: Falling Apart on Weekends 32:10 — Listener Scenario: No Time to Exercise 33:11 — The Shift: "When This Happens, Here's What I Will Do" 35:03 — Coach Amber: Taming Exercise 35:55 — Coach Elaine: Taming All-or-Nothing Thinking 36:49 — Coach Alane: Taming Autoimmune Challenges 38:52 — Final Takeaway 🔗 Links & Resources: - Learn more about the 100 Days of 1% program here: http://mypfc3.com - Have a question for the coaches? Are We Trying Too Hard to Get Healthy?

Feeling like "being healthy" has turned into a second full-time job? In this episode, coaches Amber and Elaine sit down for real talk (no sugarcoating) about health overload — the trackers, the rings, the scores, the trends — and ask the big question: are we trying too hard to be healthy? We dig into why quick fixes keep pulling us back in, how wellness rules can become just as restrictive as diet rules, why "no guilt, just data" only works if you actually use the data, and how to stop letting an app decide how your day should feel. Plus: the wellness trends that have gone too far (protein-everything, cold plunges, extended fasting), how to sort real science from social media hype, and the two or three non-negotiables each coach swears by when everything else gets stripped away. If you're exhausted trying to do "all the things," this one's for you. Timestamps: 1:07 – When self-care starts to feel like a full-time job 2:00 – "I can either live my life or try to be healthy" 3:29 – The 1% mindset vs. all-or-nothing rules 4:39 – Trading the scale for a new kind of report card 6:15 – Does tracking data actually change your behavior? 7:39 – Replacing one obsession with another 8:57 – Are you listening to the app or your body? 10:41 – Sleep scores, optimization culture, and chasing "one more thing" 13:20 – When data becomes a replacement for self-awareness 15:26 – Wellness trends that have gone too far 16:37 – The truth about cold plunges and women's bodies 17:26 – Fasting, autophagy, and functional strength training 20:30 – Navigating social media health claims and algorithms 23:19 – Reading research with a critical eye (and where AI falls short) 25:53 – Red flags: "this works for everyone" claims 27:23 – Going back to the boring, basic fundamentals 32:14 – Slowing down: why gradual change actually works 36:07 – The 2-3 things each coach would never give up 37:29 – Grit and grace: how to know if a habit is really working 39:27 – Final thoughts and how to share this episode The Health Coach Hotline is here to help you ditch the diet cycle, stabilize your blood sugar, and finally feel at home in your body — no sugarcoating, just real talk. GLP-1 Medications: What Happens When You Stop? (and how to avoid weight rebound)

Ozempic. Wegovy. Mounjaro. Zepbound. These medications are everywhere — but almost nobody is talking honestly about what happens to your body, your muscle, and your metabolism if you ever come off them. In this episode of Glucose, Grit, and Grace, Coach Amber, Coach Elaine, and Coach Elaine break down what the newest research says about GLP-1 medications, weight regain, and muscle loss — with zero shame and zero judgment, whether you're on one, considering one, or have never touched one. We cover: Why so many women are turning to GLP-1s after years of failed diets What the research actually shows about weight regain after stopping Why muscle loss (not just fat loss) is the real hidden risk The PFC3 method (Protein, Fat, Carbs every 3-4 hours) as your "insurance policy" while on medication How to protect your metabolism and muscle whether you're starting, staying on, or coming off Practical grit + grace steps to take this week, no matter where you are in the journey This is not medical advice — that conversation is always between you and your doctor. Reframing Exercise

We were taught to think about exercise in one very specific way: burn calories to lose weight and change your body. But what if burning calories is actually one of the least interesting things exercise does? In this episode of Glucose, Grit & Grace, Coaches Alane, Amber, and Elaine rethink the purpose of exercise — especially as we get older. We're talking about building muscle and bone strength, improving balance, mobility, cardiovascular fitness and endurance, supporting metabolic health, and most importantly, maintaining the ability to keep doing the things we love. Because the workout you do today isn't just for today's body. It's an investment in the body you'll need 10, 20, and even 30 years from now. Instead of asking, “How many calories did I burn?” maybe there's a better question: “What do I want my body to still be able to do 10 years from now — and what can I do today to make that possible?” Episode Highlights Why exercise is about so much more than burning calories How diet culture turned movement into punishment Why maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important as we age The connection between strength training, bone health, balance, and independence Why cardiovascular fitness matters for everyday life Functional strength: training for groceries, stairs, travel, gardening, grandchildren, and real life Why it's never too late to start moving The difference between lifespan and health span Why there isn't one “perfect” exercise program Finding movement you actually enjoy — and understanding the movement you need Why consistency matters more than going 110% A better way to measure whether your workout was successful Chapters 06:38 Stop Treating Exercise Like a Calorie-Burning Tool 08:29 What Strength Training Actually Builds 14:31 What Can You Do Today for Your Future Body? 18:03 Training Your Heart & Cardiovascular System 19:25 Stairs, Travel & Everyday Endurance 22:07 Movement, Immunity & Inflammation 23:36 Our Exercise Light-Bulb Moments 24:57 What Functional Strength Really Means 26:35 What Are You Actually Training For? 27:47 What Do You Want to Do at 70, 75 or 80? 38:17 Find Movement You Actually Enjoy 41:10 The Exercise We DON'T Enjoy 43:03 Consistency Beats Going 110% 44:13 Are We Using the Wrong Exercise Scoreboard? 45:59 Picture Your Life 10 Years From Now 📲 Stay Connected with Us: Follow The Coaches Hotline: Glucose, Grit & Grace for more real talk, no sugar coating: 📌 Resources & Links: Connect with Elaine: https://instagram.com/nana_knows_better Connect with Alane: https://instagram.com/alanepearcecoaching Connect with Amber: https://instagram.com/coachamberc Email: CoachesHotline: glucosegritandgrace.com Website: https://glucosegritandgrace.com 🎙️ About The Coaches Hotline: Glucose, Grit & Grace We are three PFC3 health coaches—Amber, Elaine, and Alane—on a mission to cut through the diet culture noise. Busting Diet Myths

Remember when fat-free meant healthy, carbs were the enemy, you had to clean your plate, and eating after 7 PM was practically forbidden? We do too. In this episode of Glucose, Grit & Grace, Elaine, Amber, and Alane take some of the health advice we've heard for decades and put it into three categories: 🏆 Hall of Fame 🚫 Hall of Shame 🤔 It Depends We look back at the low-fat craze, the surprising marketing history behind "breakfast is the most important meal of the day," our fear of carbohydrates, the clean-your-plate mentality, the eight-glasses-of-water rule, and whether eating after 7 PM really matters. Then we look ahead: Which of today's health trends might we be questioning 20 years from now? The bigger lesson? Be careful with absolutes. Nutrition science continues to evolve, but the fundamentals aren't particularly flashy: nourish your body, eat balanced meals, move, sleep, manage stress, and build a strong foundation before chasing the latest health trend. In this episode: * Why "fat-free" became synonymous with healthy * The surprising origin of the breakfast slogan * Why carbs don't deserve their bad reputation * Where "clean your plate" came from * Why everyone doesn't need exactly the same amount of water * What really happens if you eat after 7 PM * Today's trends we may think differently about in the future * Why mastering the basics beats constantly chasing the next health hack What health advice did YOU grow up believing? The Protein Craze: What's Real, What's Hype, and What Your Body Actually Needs

Protein is everywhere right now—protein cereal, protein chips, protein popcorn…even protein ketchup. But does putting “HIGH PROTEIN” on the front of a package automatically make it a healthy choice? In this episode of Glucose, Grit & Grace, Coaches Amber, Alane, and Elaine cut through the protein hype and talk about what protein actually does in the body, why it becomes increasingly important as we age, and why the source of your protein matters. We break down complete vs. incomplete proteins, essential amino acids, protein’s connection to blood sugar and energy, and what plant-based eaters need to consider when building balanced meals. We also take a closer look at the explosion of high-protein processed foods and why a protein claim on the front of a package doesn't tell you the whole story. Whether you eat meat, follow a vegetarian diet, or are fully plant-based, this episode isn't about adding more food rules. It's about becoming more informed and intentional about what you're putting on your plate. In this episode: * Why protein is about much more than building muscle * What essential amino acids are and why they matter * Complete vs. incomplete protein * Why protein becomes increasingly important as we age * Protein's role in balanced meals and steadier energy * What “high protein” on a food label really tells you * Protein considerations for vegetarians and vegans * Why plant-based doesn't automatically mean minimally processed * How to become a better label detective * The simple protein question to ask at your very next meal Because better health doesn't require an overnight overhaul. Sometimes it starts with looking at one meal a little differently. Episode Highlights Protein is more than a fitness nutrient. Your body uses amino acids from dietary protein as building material for tissues throughout the body. Protein becomes especially relevant as we age. Maintaining adequate protein intake along with resistance exercise supports the muscle and strength we want to preserve for the decades ahead. “High protein” doesn't tell the whole story. A product can contain protein and still deserve a closer look at its overall nutrition and ingredient list. Plant-based eating can absolutely provide adequate protein. It simply requires awareness of protein sources and overall dietary variety. Don't let protein become another diet rule. The coaches' message comes back to awareness and intentional choices rather than perfection. The 1% shift: At your next meal, simply look at your plate and ask where your protein is coming from. 📲 Stay Connected with Us: Follow The Coaches Hotline: Glucose, Grit & Grace for more real talk, no sugar coating: 📌 Resources & Links: Email: CoachesHotline: glucosegritandgrace.com Website: https://glucosegritandgrace.com 🎙️ About The Coaches Hotline: Glucose, Grit & Grace We are three PFC3 health coaches—Amber, Elaine, and Alane—on a mission to cut through the diet culture noise. The Missing Health Skill Nobody Ever Taught You

We've been taught to ignore hunger, push through exhaustion, and believe that aches, cravings, and fatigue are simply part of getting older. But what if your body has been communicating with you all along—and you've just been given the wrong translation? In this episode of Glucose, Grit & Grace, Coaches Elaine, Amber, and Alane explore why awareness is the foundation of lasting health. They discuss how years of dieting, cultural messages, and busy lifestyles have disconnected us from our body's signals and how learning to become a student of your own body can completely change the way you approach nutrition, energy, stress, and overall wellness. You'll discover: Why awareness is more powerful than willpower The difference between body signals and the stories we tell ourselves Why hunger, fatigue, and cravings aren't character flaws How curiosity leads to healthier choices Practical ways to slow down and reconnect with your body If you've ever felt frustrated because you "know what to do" but still struggle to make lasting changes, this conversation is for you. ✨ Remember: Awareness isn't the finish line—it's where meaningful change begins. Highlights • Awareness is the foundation of every healthy habit. • Hunger, fatigue, and cravings are information—not personal failures. • We've spent years interpreting our body's signals through dieting and culture instead of curiosity. • Becoming aware is a skill anyone can learn. • The "Check Engine Light" analogy explains why symptoms deserve attention instead of criticism. • Asking "Why?" five times can uncover the real reason behind unhealthy habits. • Community makes lasting lifestyle change easier and less lonely. • Small moments of "white space" throughout the day help us reconnect with our body's needs.
