Through Mephibosheth, we see a man whose injury, isolation, and circumstances caused him to see himself as a “dead dog,” even though he was actually a prince with a place at the king’s table. David restored his safety, acceptance, inheritance, and belonging because of his covenant with Jonathan. In the same way, our identity in Christ is received, not achieved. We are children of God, accepted in the Beloved, new creations, chosen, seated with Christ, and created for good works.
