'The Idol' S01 E03 - Daybreak: Discussion

Discussing episode 3 of The Idol and we are covering a lot of serious topics - trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and verbal abuse. The progression of which a person is victimized can be hard to interpret when the abuser is tactful in repackaging negatives into positives - we are seeing these signs with Tedros and Jocelyn, especially in the style of slow burn - the abuse isn’t clear cut and takes time and trust to develop. Tedros’ abuse is framed in “motivation” and “inspiration” - do you have to push through the pain to make meaningful and substantial art?

'The Idol' S01 E02 - Double Fantasy: Discussion

Welcome back, angels. We're discussing Season 1 Episode 2 of the scandalous and controversial talk-of-the-town show, 'The Idol'. In this episode, we dive into themes of voyeurism, power dynamics, "cult" classic Hollywood (Kubrick talk makes an appearance), and unfortunately, fat tongues. If you're enjoying the show, you are voyeuristic maenads... like us. Sam Levinson knows us and he knows we’re all joining Tedros’ club (cult). You have to be a triple threat to qualify - sing, dance, and act at the bare minimum because Tedros must be surrounded by the harp-sounding voices of angels at all times. That’s show biz baby. 'The Idol' S01 E01 Pilot - Pop Tarts & Rat Tales: Discussion

Hello angels. Today we're back with the largely anticipated new series on Max, 'The Idol'. We're are introduced to pop-star Jocelyn and her story of stardom - potentially the rise and fall as she meet Tedros, a slum-lord meets 80s disco pimp-esque character. Sex, drugs, and rock & roll are on the docket of discussion in this pilot as well as: Sam Levinson's distinct cinematography and storytelling style (especially in relation to 'Euphoria'), what The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) brings to the table as a character, writer & producer, and how this enigmatic management cast gave (and will continue to give) the much-needed comedic relief for the rest of the season/series. We are true lovers of tv, film, pop culture, and especially music so this show has and will continue to be very fun for us to deep-dive and discuss.
