Episode notes
Welcome to the Haunted Pines podcast. Fun, bit-sized episodes of high strangeness.
Trigger warning for this episode: child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, unaliving.
In this episode, we tell the disturbing true story of Maurice “Frenchy” Theriault, a man whose brutal childhood in rural Maine was marked by extreme abuse and trauma before spiraling into claims of demonic possession decades later in Massachusetts. As an adult, Maurice began experiencing violent blackouts, strange voices, unexplained physical symptoms, and terrifying behavior that drew the attention of priests and paranormal investigators, including Ed and Lorraine Warren, who believed he was possessed and witnessed phenomena such as apparent bilocation and inhuman strength. A formal exorcism in 1985 offered only temporary relief, and Maurice’s life continued to collapse amid accusations of sexual assault, family division, and public controversy over whether he was truly possessed or deeply traumatized... this is The Awful Thing About Maurice.
