Devotional Context
This verse was written for people who needed courage in difficult circumstances. Peter wanted them to understand that their hope was not dependent on comfort, acceptance, wealth, or an easy path. Their hope rested in the risen Christ.
For us today, 1 Peter 1:3 calls us to begin with praise, remember God’s mercy, and live with confidence in the resurrection. Whatever today brings, the resurrection assures us that God can bring life out of death, hope out of despair, and purpose out of pain.
In 1 Peter 1:3, Peter breaks into praise:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
