Episode notes
βI love to sail forbidden seas, and land on barbarous coasts.β - Herman Melville, ππ°π£πΊ-ππͺπ€π¬ π°π³, π΅π©π¦ ππ©π’ππ¦
Well, it doesn't get much more forbidden and barbarous than this. On August 12, 1819, the whaling vessel ππ΄π΄π¦πΉ departed Nantucket port for what was intended to be a three-year expedition hunting giants of the deep. What returned after just a year was a handful of surviving crew and one hell of a story. This is the terrifying true tale that inspired an American classic, and still haunts the seas to this day.
