Episode notes
Robb Stark rides to the Twins to apologize for breaking his marriage pact with Walder Frey, with Catelyn and Roose Bolton at his side and Arya a day behind on the road with the Hound. Edmure's wedding to Roslin Frey passes peacefully, Talisa shares a quiet plan to name their son Eddard, and Yunkai falls bloodlessly to Daenerys through a back gate. Then the musicians at the feast strike up the Rains of Castamere, Catelyn feels chainmail beneath Roose Bolton's sleeve, and the doors are barred. North of the Wall, Jon's wildling cover collapses when Orell tests his loyalty, and Bran wargs into Hodor to stay hidden, then into Summer to help Jon escape — afterward splitting his group, sending Rickon to Last Hearth while he continues beyond the Wall.
The Red Wedding ends the War of the Five Kings without a battlefield: Talisa, Robb, Catelyn, and Grey Wind are killed, Roose Bolton delivers Robb's death blow with a message from King's Landing, and Tywin Lannister wins through Bolton's ambition and Frey's grudge over a broken oath. Robb never lost a fight — he lost the war by marrying for love and executing Karstark on principle, the same pattern of honor-driven choices that killed his father. The north's leadership is gone in a single room, the Stark children are scattered toward the Wall and the Riverlands, and the song in the title was the warning Catelyn heard too late.
